Just Great!
I labored over purchasing this kit (Tobacco)...sadly there's not much on the internet about how truly versatile the kit can be. There's clearly a Jazz slant given the references to Erskine...and I enjoy the genre. However, I wanted an acoustic kit that could cover various styles of music and not take up a lot of space...I knew this would mean sacrafices. However, this kit delivered...it was flawless when opened...I felt as if I bought a luxury car in comparison to some other kits I have purchased. The most important...the range...just incredible...I tuned it low for rock...and up for Jazz and Reggae...it's just great. The Bass drum is astounding...20" in diameter and 12" deep...I can feather it...and KICK it... Very happy with this kit...and line from DW...the kit doesn't top out...you can play softly and present the dynamics...and play it hard to rock it out...the cross stick is excellent...and the bass drum delivers...it sings. I'm an enthusiast...so I play for fun and with friends...I've been through V-Drums and other acoustic drums...so in comparison...for acoustic..DW all the way. The kit is compact, well engineered, and a pleasure to play...the tuning range is broad given the tension rod threading...low and it holds...high and it holds...and across the spectrum, it sings. My only comment...I wish DW had demo'd the kit with more than the Jazz slant with Erskine...the promo video mentioned "Rock"...but it felt like it was thrown in because Erskine didn't highlight it...that's what made me hesitate with my purchase...In actuality the kit can deliver a broad spectrum of genres...not Death Metal...but definately Rock, Jazz Reggae, Funk...and it works well at home (for me), but definately in a studio and live...and I'm certain it can be mic'd well for larger venues. I can pull off Rock to Bossa to Jazz to Reggae...etc...it just works! I took a leap and tried it thinking the Jazz sizes would be broader than represented given the shell construction DW employs for this kit...so I'm glad I did! Great job DW! ...the next drum I buy will be DW...no question! Gentle suggestion...maybe consider demonstrating the versatility of this kit...I'm certain others would embrace it knowing it is more versatile than presented.
