Not everybody plays like, say Larry Graham on the one end, or John Entwistle on the other, where a true round-wound string is needed full-time. Enter D-Addatrio Half-Rounds. I love them because they create a sort of "middle ground" between a round- and flat-wound string. For me, dialing the tone control on my bass, enables me to emulate a flat-wound sound, which for my purposes, I play more often; but tone up full treble, and I get that percussive attack, when needed. Best of all, they're not as likely to chew up the frets as quickly as true round-wounds; which is especially important, since I only have one bass.
