I already owned a Rainsong Shorty (OM body, now discontinued), but I wanted to get something just a bit bigger with more bass response. Lo and behold, Rainsong has a new Concert Hybrid line of instruments that features the bigger WS body shape, with unidirectional carbon fiber soundboard, and a matte finish on the back/sides/neck. And at an incredibly affordable price! Compared to my Shorty, which was something like $2000 street, the Concert Hybrid is a much better value, and still an incredibly well-made and well-playing instrument. In fact, I prefer the matte finish on the neck much more than the glossy finish on the Shorty's neck. The biggest change for the CH series, besides the matte finish (still glossy on top, it looks gorgeous), is the LR Baggs Element pickup and preamp, which is very easy to use and sounds like you would expect an acoustic-electric to sound. Came with a great hard shell case and Elixir strings, blackout hardware cosmetics, and some serious unplugged tone and punch! Plus I don't have to keep it in a case all winter (here in Montana) with a humidifier; I can keep it on the stand, play it anytime I feel like it, and it stays in tune far better than any wooden instrument I've ever owned. This guitar is a serious bargain, with no compromise on quality.
