Revered by blues, country and rock players alike, Peavey Classic amps span the tonal landscape from vintage to contemporary with ease, and the Classic 20 MH provides that tone in a highly portable package. The all-tube, 20-Watt Classic 20 MH is powered by two EL84 power tubes and 3 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tubes. It has two channels that follow the same gain structure and voicing of the Peavey Classic series amps for pure and versatile tone. The channels share a three-band EQ, lush reverb and an effects loop. The channels, effects loop and reverb are all footswitchable. Peavey's TSI tube monitoring alerts players of power tube status, and in the event of a necessary tube replacement, identifies which tube needs to be replaced. Rear panel features such as a Microphone Simulated Direct Interface (MSDI) with XLR output and USB out, speaker defeat switch and 3 position power attenuator switch make the Classic 20 MH mini head perfect for studio environments.

The perfect answer!

I replaced a Blackstar HT 5HR with the Peavey Classic 20 MH and the difference is astounding. This little head packs a punch at the 20W setting but the option of lowering it to 5W or 1W is so useful to play without sacrificing tone or grit later at night when the family is asleep. Even the 20W setting sounds great turned down to 2 or 1. The clean channel is sweet sounding and very clear. I use my pedals on this setting and can dial in jut about any sound I could possibly want. The gain channel is very versatile and can adjust the dirt from almost clean but gets gritty as you dig in with the pick, or you can dial in a lot of gain. seems perfect for classic rock, some old school punk. The reverb, not my favorite effect normally, sounds good, goes from very subtle to surf. There's nothing I don't like about this, wish it was available before I bought my Blackstar. I use it with Blackstar 10" cab and initially thought I'd change that but they sound great together.

I am a 66-year-old blues guy who no longer plays out. BUT, I haven't stopped "playing". I needed an amp head that would work for me at home. I wanted something that I could push hard and get awesome tone, when no one was home, but something that allowed me to drop power and still saturate when my family was in the other room. I once had a Classic 30 combo and a Classic 115e cab that I played through. Sold the combo - too loud - but kept the cab. What a great rig! Peavy Classic 20 MH through a 1X15 speaker cab is the coolest blues rig I've ever used! Absolutely love it! Even sounds great at 1 WATT!

Great Tweed

Great little amp. I hesitate to say little, because 20 tube watts in loud. The attenuator switch makes recording or practicing great by providing a 1 watt setting where you can dial in creamy gain tones at low volumes. For that classic tweed sound, this amp is perfect. It's comparable to classic amps without the over the top highs that haunt some models. *Hands on review by Christopher M. from store 57 in Indianapolis.
