Charles Dumont & Son Joel Rothman Drumming and All That Jazz
As the name implies, this book is a comprehensive study dealing with most aspects of jazz drumming. The first half is devoted to two, three, and four-way coordination between the ride cymbal, snare, hi-hat and bass drum. Also covered is Latin jazz with mambo and paila-style beats, as well as jazz and Latin beats in odd-time signatures such as 3/4, 5/4, and 7/4. The second half of the book focuses on fills, breaks, and four-bar solos (trading fours). The material is tightly organized and developmentally presented so that drummers at all levels will benefit from practicing the exercises.
