With the SY-1, it's never been easier to infuse your creative arsenal with Boss's legendary guitar synth technology. This amazingly expressive tool is filled with 121 ultra-responsive sounds, all distilled down into a Boss compact pedal that slides easily into any setup. Best of all, it's as simple to use as a standard stompbox, so you don't need any background in synth programming to bring a new world of sonic textures to your music.

Expressive Synth Sounds, No Programming Needed
The SY-1 transforms any guitar or bass into a versatile synthesizer that's fun, inspiring, and ready to play. Backed by advanced tech first developed for the SY-300, this super-cool pedal delivers a huge selection of analog-style synth sounds while occupying minimal space on your board. What's more, all the sounds are polyphonic, allowing you to play both single notes and chords.

Plug-and-Play and Latency-Free
The SY-1 can be used with any guitar or bass via a standard 1/4" cable, providing an easy, plug-and-play experience. Thanks to custom DSP and the latest Boss innovations, the SY-1 offers latency-free performance that's a natural extension of your instrument, letting you to play freely and organically without altering your normal technique in any way.

A Universe of Synth Sounds Inside
With its 11 categories and 121 total sounds, the SY-1 puts an enormous array of synth colors at your fingertips. Expressive leads, sweeping pads, layered organs, fat basses, and more are all on tap, plus a variety of rhythmic synth patterns that are a blast to jam with. And with the grab-and-go Tone/Rate and Depth knobs, you're able to adjust any synth voice just how you like, including changing the pitch on some sounds.

At Home in Any Rig
As a standard Boss compact, the SY-1 drops into a serial pedal chain like any other stomp. But with the send/return loop and dedicated mix controls, it's also possible to blend one or more pedals in parallel with the SY-1's synth voices. For example, you can patch drive pedals in the loop, and then send the combined output to mod, delay, and reverb pedals for overall processing. The send can be used as a direct out as well, enabling you to route synth and guitar sounds to separate destinations.

Enhance Performances with Real-Time Control
The SY-1 offers a numbers of ways to make your synth performances even more dynamic and expressive. Pressing and holding the pedal switch sustains the last-played synth sound, allowing you to jam with regular guitar over the top. You can also connect an external footswitch for tap tempo and octave-shift effects, or plug in an expression pedal for continuous Tone/Rate control.

A very good guitar...and for the price, probably the best.

Another option on pedal board

Pedal has a wide array of sounds. Fits the needs I have for it.

Love this pedal!!

I use it in a church setting where we need a pad or strings every once in a while; used it the 1st Sunday I had it, and worked great!! Thx Sam Ash!!

High quality synth, great price

This inexpensive synth pedal has more sound options and quieter performance than similar pedals in this price range. When paired with an expression pedal it is versatile and responsive. This is a great expansion for your sonic palette.

Incredible sounds and tracking

I installed a Roland Gk pickup over a decade ago on my guitar to be able to trigger synth sounds and it can't touch this pedal. The tracking is not only some of the most accurate polyphonic tracking I've experienced, it feels like it has transformed your guitar into a synth signal rather than just triggering samples. You can even do tapping runs without artifacts or the other faults you get with most guitar synth setups. On sound and tracking, this is easily 5 stars. Overall, I wish it had the ability to save presets for quick recall but that's minor for me as I don't play live. I can't recommend this pedal enough.

I would buy this product again

I use it in a live performance situation playing classic rock music. My fellow bandmates were very impressed after they heard the pedal.

Exceeds expectations

Tracks great; truly polyphonic even on a 5 string bass; more sounds variations than I could imagine; More ways to use these sounds than I expected; hold feature nice for playing over chord tones.

Boss raises the bar - again and again

Great pedal. Excellent tracking for guitar. Used it on a gig w/o telling bandmates and they loved it.

After using this pedal for a few weeks in a variety of settings, I would rate it a solid 3, maybe 3 1/2. On the plus side, the sounds are pretty good across the board, although like a lot of synth manufacturers, this one also wastes valuable real estate with SFX that are hokey and lame. However, the pad and string sounds are quite good. Tracking is pretty decent, but you have to be really careful where you place this on your pedalboard. Put it in the middle or towards the end of the chain, you're in trouble. I split off my main guitar signal with an ABY, then sent the SY1 to its own reverb and into a separate channel on the board for more control (I run my rig direct to the PA). It's tricky to operate this live, and I would kill for a sustain knob for the pad and string programs - they die pretty quickly with no trails, hence the reverb chaser. Good for what it is, I do recommend this pedal - but I'm hoping v2 will be easier to manage and operate.

Not up to expectations.

I was not impressed with the sounds of this synth, more over I did feel the latency needs a lot to be desired. It went back in a couple of days.
