I am in the process of expanding my BOSS RC-300 Loop Station and this is one of the necessary components. Essentially, it is a blank pedal that communicates with another device. It can be used as a toggle or momentary switch, communicating with the partner device through a 1/4 inch mono cable. At this time, I use it as an ON/OFF switch for the MIC INPUT so that I can kill output from a mic that I have dedicated solely to looping. Alternately, using it to switch from LOOP to SINGLE PLAY can be useful if you want to use different loops together more seamlessly; not simply building from one. This pedal will be repeatedly stepped on, so an extended warranty is never a terrible call, but BOSS does typically provide 1 year under normal use. That said, because of the simplicity of the design, there's not much to go wrong here. If you keep it clean, this thing will outlast every other electronic device you currently have. Highly recommended for BOSS loop station users looking to expand their sound by delegating control from master device to a easy to manipulate footswich.
