The latest in Yamaha's storied BB series of bass guitars delivers the superb sound and build quality that this series is known for in a smaller body with even better playability. Featuring custom-wound pickups that achieve higher output gain while retaining the classic BB voicing, the new lineup of BB basses are a testament to Yamaha’s commitment to musical excellence. The BB434 Bass features a contoured solid alder body with classic original 1977 BroadBass styling. The bolt-on 34” scale 5-ply maple and mahogany laminated neck delivers a sharp attack, and quick response. This durable construction resists warping and twisting and adds the tight, penetrating character of maple combined with the warmth of mahogany to the instrument’s tone. Yamaha's 6-Bolt Miter Neck Joint holds the neck closer and tighter to the body fusing these two separate components into one. Compared to a conventional bolt-on joint, miter bolting offers more efficient transfer of string vibration throughout the body, for improved sustain and outstanding resonance that brings every note to life.

The BB434 Bass is outfitted with Yamaha’s V5 Alnico pickups; with a split single-coil P style pickup, along with a single coil J style pickup in the bridge position. these pickups are tuned to deliver the classic BB vintage tone, slightly updated to provide a brighter sound that cuts through in live performance situations. A master tone control and two volume control knobs facilitate versatile sound shaping.

The 400 models are equipped with a Vintage Plus Light bridge that incorporates “Diagonal Body Thru Stringing,” in which the strings are angled at the saddle and pass through the instrument to the bridge at a 45º angle, as opposed to the traditional vertical stringing method which places more stress on the strings. Diagonal Body Thru Stringing significantly reduces this stress while transferring string vibration to the body reliably and efficiently. The strings can also be attached to the tail end of the bridge. Light weight tuners offer a better balance and complement the overall feel. Case not included.

Excellent Bass. Great sound from both pickups and smaller profile neck makes it a dream to play. Great quality passive electronics. Totally worth it.

Yamaha BB434

First, I'm a recording guitar player who was looking for a big, punchy bass sound for my new recordings. I didn't want to spend 1k+ on a Fender P-Bass so I started a search. I first looked at the Ibanez Mezzo basses. At $299 street, the price was right but I was concerned about it not being "professional" grade. And watching their YT promo vid, I decided against it. Yes, the promo makes it look like a toy for beginners especially aimed at teenagers. Then, I found this Yamaha B-Bass. Its got a P/J pick-up configuration so the best of both worlds. Did some research on it and reviews are 4-5 star everywhere you look. And it uses an Alnico-V (YGD Custom V5 Pickups). Its part of the same family of BB basses (like the BB3000 Michael Anthony). Billy Sheehan is also a Yamaha guy with his Yamaha Attitude. If you don't have the money for either of these, the BB434 is a great alternative. My worry was will it have enough power/output. Well, it does for recording. I would assume it would for gigging. It plays nice, plays great, sounds great. I saw this on the Sam Ash site, brand new (store demo) and picked it up for $393! Street on these are $499. Yes, its made in Indonesia but the quality control is there. Its got the same 6-bolt miter neck joint that the Billy Sheehan and Michael Anthony sigs have. And the workmanship is excellent. This is a solid, punchy, great playing bass guitar and for the money, even at $499, is a great price.
