A good mouthpiece will improve any instrument, the Selmer S80 has been an industry standard for generations.
SKU: SS402XXXXX
One of the most universally recommended mouthpieces for advancing students, the Selmer S-80 is made of enubriated hard rubber and has a square cross-section chamber as opposed to typical rounded chambers. A hard rubber mouthpiece has many advantages over the inexpensive plastic ones generally provided with many instruments. Two most common advantages are the material is much denser and thus provides a more even tone throughout all registers, and it also lends itself to being machined more precisely and in turn offers a higher quality and better crafted mouthpiece.
Commonly used in more classical applications because of the smooth even tone, the Selmer S-80 focuses strongly on intonation and providing a centered sound throughout all registers. Availably in tip openings ranging from 1.15 to 1.55, each player can select a mouthpiece that fits their natural style of play, as well as their horn and preferred reed.

I am relatively new to music and to the alto sax so I can't critique the S80 Selmer Paris alto sax mouthpiece with any sophistication; however, I can say that I get a much richer and deeper sound from it compared to the mouthpiece that came with my Yanagisawa AW01. I should mention also that I changed the original ligature to a Rovner MK III. I am quite happy with the S80.

If you're having trouble cleaning the fuzziness from your tone, this classical-style mouthpiece has a moderate facing and smaller chamber to help developing students and pros alike create a more standard, "speakable" tone. If you don't have any glissandos or altissimo pitches to play, it's versatile enough for jazz as well! An all-around great mouthpiece.

The Selmer C* is the most fun mouthpiece that I have ever played. Great tone and even blowing makes a full sound that is great for any genre. When played with Vandoren Jazz 3.5 reeds, it's been the best pair for me. I have loved every minute of playing with that mouthpiece. This is a real hands on product review by Sean at Sam Ash Indianapolis.
