A semi-pro horn that competes on the level of pro horns
If you're in the market for a new saxophone but don't have a professional saxophone budget, then this is the horn for you. This is the best saxophone you could buy for the price tag. This saxophone might as well be considered a professional horn. I bought the YAS-480 after taking an 8 year hiatus from playing the saxophone. Prior to that I had 10 years worth of playing experience. I tested out the YAS-62III and I liked it as well, but the YAS-480 gave me a bit of a darker tone and responded just as well as the YAS-62III. Everything that can be done on a YAS-62III can just as easily be done on a YAS-480. I really like the fact that the YAS-480 comes with a 62 style neck which helps with the responsiveness of the horn. The horn is built very sturdy and there is no jiggle room on the keys or rods. The pads are sealed really well on the horn. Although my horn was made in China (I do believe they make some in Indonesia as well), there was no difference in the attention to detail, quality, and quality assurance provided in the horns previously made in Japan. If you take the proper steps to take care of this horn, this could be a saxophone that lasts generations.
