I couldn't say enough good about this clarinet. It has a wonderful tone and for the first time I have been able to play notes in the altissimo register. Due to the silver plating, it is a very beautiful clarinet to look at. Also due to a stupid decision made in Japan, the clarinet may come with a cheap plastic mouthpiece cover, instead of the advertised silver-plated mouthpiece cover. This is not a problem. Just call Yamaha and they will send you the proper mouthpiece cover. Accordingly, the Japanese managers recognized that clarinet professionals usually bought their own mouthpiece and mouthpiece cover. While this is probably true, they decided to substitute their mouthpiece cover with a cheap plastic cover. Stupid! They failed to recognize that intermediates and amateur hobbyists like me wanting a really good clarinet would purchase the 650 instead of the 450. True professionals will purchase a V series clarinet - not a 650. Thankfully, Yamaha will send you the proper mouthpiece cover. To the best of my knowledge, they are not substituting the mouthpiece with an inferior one. You can confirm this. Just look for a stamp on the mouthpiece that says "4CM". Anything else is a substitute. Again, I cannot say enough good about this clarinet. It is absolutely superb and I do not hesitate to recommend it.

Great clarinet for the price! Beautiful wood, and the sound is very deep and resonant. Tuning also seems to be better when compared to my plastic yamaha.
