great kit backed by knowledgeable people

I started out with a Nitro mesh kit,and traded up to this kit,it's excellent for the price, with dual zone heads that I only had on the snare before. Matt Braswell was awesome to deal with and answered all my questions and concerns, Sam Ash has my business for life !

Great E-Kit , Awesome Price

Nice kit for the beginning or intermediate drummer. Great for places where you gotta watch your 'volume'. Perfect fit for apartments or kids bedroom / basement / music room!

Not the cheapest, but great value and bang for your buck!

I'm very happy with my purchase. The mesh heads are wonderful, and the price was right for my budget. Shipping was fast. I like that the set is compact but close to the feel of playing a set of acoustic drums. Personalizing the sounds of a user set has given me great joy!

I am only a amateur, but I love this kit!!

I am a 46 year old novice drummer, with no space or family tolerance for noise for a full size drum kit. I purchased the Surge after visiting a local music store to try a few electronic drum sets. I was initially looking at the Nitro (about $200 less), but after trying the Surge, and appreciating the (upgraded from Nitro) dual action Toms as well as the sturdier frame. Not being a "real" drummer, I can't accurately say how well the mesh heads feel in relation to a real drum set, but I can say that they feel good to me. There is plenty of bounce, and I can accurately double stroke (I'm still learning the paradiddle - not quite there yet). The included kits (sounds) are decent, though as someone who prefers classic/hard/heavy/rock I find myself using only about 3 of the 25. I am able to map anything I want in Ableton Live with the MIDI connector so, I am not concerned there. For the most part I play through headphones, but I have it hooked up to a 15W Crate XTISR and it sounds fine (clean) to about 60% max volume. Overall I am super satisfied with this kit. The only thing I wish is that it allowed you to play the click track (metronome) through the headphones, and not the speaker. It comes out of both (if you are hooked up to both).

Best product ever

The alesis surge mesh is amazing is really quiet and the kits are amazing is like if you were actually playing regular drum set and I would recommend this for someone who wants to start playing the drums is an amazing kit and it has everything you need to learn and to master your skillset

Pretty good for the price

I know I didn't go for top of the line with the alesis surge as its just for practice and to teach the kids. I haven't had it long enuf to know how durable it is, but my biggest complaint would have to be the "dual zone" toms. Its either cheaply built or the rim is way too sensitive. Even after turning the sensitivity all the way down. I would set a bell or effect on the 2nd tom rim as the dual zone, and through out playing I would hear the rim sound when I'm only hitting mesh. The rim light on the module also blinks so its getting triggered without hitting it. I finally gave up and just set the rim and mesh sound as the exact same sound so I can at least play without hearing a sound I'm not hitting. I also wasn't real impressed with the bass tower. Its such a big pad giving plenty of space for a double kick...with a trigger that's only a little bigger than a quarter and located at the bottom of the pad next to the rim. The rest of the backing of the pad is a block of foam. So to even hear the kick over the toms and snare, I had to turn the volume and sensitivity of the kick up to its max and move my beaters lower than I want to. Kinda retraining my feet now. I wish they would have put the trigger in the center like the rest of the toms are. But overall, I like it. Its going to do pretty much what we want it to. The toms and snare and very responsive. You can do buzz rolls and hear every beat. The mp3 play along is great and a big reason I wanted an electric. Another being its relatively quiet. I can play and not be exactly silent, but quiet enuf where I don't bother anyone. The learning stuff will be great for my daughter who is just starting to learn to play set in school. And I wasn't about to spend $1500+ on something to practice on and to let the kids mess around on it. I bought the kit, a cymbal add on, a set of headphones and a drum amp and I'm only in about $650. I've even got 1 more spot open for a 4th tom if we decide we want it.

Hornick, iowa

I recommend it to my friend.

Less noise and able to play even living in apartment.

Good value for your dollar

This is a nice kit, especially for someone like me who is not a "serious" drummer. The only knock I have on it is the small size of all the toms. Even if just the floor Tom was 10 inches versus 8 inches that would be helpful. Easy and straightforward to set up, and the input is helpful for practicing with songs and instructional videos. Overall I'd call it a good buy.
