When you insert the SD card into the Akai MPX16, you can assign its contents to any of the MPX16’s pads, and you're on your way.

The Akai MPX16's sensitive trigger pads and backlit display make it easy to take sounds from the sample library, the 1/4-inch audio inputs allow you to connect other devices and instruments to the MPX16 for sampling. Onboard editing tools allow you to trim samples and assign pads to your exact preferences and prepare for recording or performance. Monitor what you're doing through headphones or send it straight to a  a recording interface, mixer or monitors using the ¼-inch outputs. There's also a built-in mic so you can create samples whenver you feel like it while a dedicated Record Gain knob is there for you to record it properly.

You've Got Connections
Connecting through MPX16’s rear-panel USB port allows you to drag & drop samples from your computer and even use the MPX16 as an SD card reader/writer. The USB connection also with your computer allows you to share MIDI data, or enabling sample triggering from your DAW or sequencer. A 5-pin MIDI connector also lets you trigger samples from any MIDI keyboards, synths, pad controllers and electronic drums. The same MIDI connection lets you use the MPX16 as a dynamic pad controller. The MPX16 can become the central hub for your studio.

Editing is Simple
With the free Akai Pro File Loader software (via download), you can easily manage computer-based samples and move them to the SD card. This software also converts sound files into .WAV format for immediate playback on the MPX16. Samples may also be edited from the onboard sample processor; tuning, pad groups, envelopes, sample trimming, panning and volume are tweakable right from the MPX16’s top-panel controls.

Not sure yet

I am not a computer musician, so I wanted something that I didn't need to have all the midi to use. This fits the bill, but it would be a lot easier to use if there were better instructions. I can not find any how to videos online so you have to figure it out for yourself.
