Excellent stick definition with dry, full-bodied stick sound. Dark, warm undertones with trashy crash qualities for accents. Old School. New Attitude. A contemporary expression of the legendary K Zildjian sound. An innovative blend of traditional and modern hammering techniques dries out the sound, enhancing the K character of each cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom 20" Dark Ride Cymbal:

I have actually wanted this cymbal for a couple of years now, and just now got around to getting it! lol I have been looking for that perfect bell. The bell stands out above all the rest. There is only a single tone going from bell to rim. Its perfect. It has a little bit of a raspy/washy sound of a crash and the ping and highend of a ride with a warm overtone.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom 20" Dark Ride Cymbal:

I've played many models in search of the perfect bell tone. This one takes the cake in my opinion: It's clean, warm, it projects nicely, and it's very pleasing to the ear-- not too sharp or pingy.

The ride sound is lush, warm, dark, and smooth-- not too dry (like the dry-light ride), not too pingy amd bright (like an A custom), not too washy. A great equilibrium of all of these qualities. The only drawback would be it's slightly limited volume (I think the dark tone and overall presence makes up for that but it depends on the style of music and the projection you need. A nice louder cymbal with a good bell would be the A Sweet Ride). This ride sits under the mix and creates a smooth groove. It doesn't ride on top with a lot of sharp ping.

It also has a lush, washy crash sound that's smooth and dark if that's your game.

This cymbal is moderately weighted-- lighter than an A or A custom so it has some play to it, heavier than a thinner crash-type ride so it has some stick ping. I'd say it's on the thin side.

Not the greatest projection so it's not completely versatile, but one of the best overall sounds possible from a ride (and an amazing bell tone).

A beautiful cymbal not just for jazz...

Comments about Zildjian K Custom 20" Dark Ride Cymbal:

"When first playing this cymbal at my local Sam Ash in Las Vegas it immediately reminded me of Joe Morello's ride on the classic ""Take Five""; a dark, airy ""tah"" sound with just enough high end. I had to have it, and upon buying it and spending some time with it at the house, I'm pleased to report that this bad boy is NOT just a ""jazz""ride. 12/8 Blues, old school classic rock and even latin quarter-note bell grooves are all easily pulled off. I can recommend this ride to anyone looking for a versatile cymbal that's a little on the warm/dark side. Thanks Zildjian for a cymbal that I know will only get better through the years."
