Comments about Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Set:

I owned a small electronic pad set with an external sound module for many years due to space and volume limitations in my house. When that setup needed replaced, I looked for one that had its own sounds with the option to upgrade if needed. I tried out many of the compact electronic drum pad setups and found the Yamaha DD65 to be the best combination of traditional drums and digital features. I am impressed by the sound quality found on this little machine and the pad setup is unlike any of its competitors, as it is set to give the drummer a more natural feel. The pads bounce about the same as a practice pad and are more expressive than I thought they'd be. There are two drawbacks (and the reason I can't give it five stars) to the unit 1) the pedals that come with it are buttons that are very difficult to use; and 2) the internal speakers are useless because the tapping of the drumsticks overpower the sound of the speakers. I get around these issues by using traditional electronic pedals (which I kept from my previous setup) and using small powered studio monitors or headphones for sound. I am extremely happy with this drumset.

Comments about Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Set:

Here's the good and the bad. For the price, overall, you get to a good beginners product. However, the foot pedals are not always responsive if played too quickly and the max volume on the speakers is not as loud as desired. Also. One final note. Selling an electronic instrument (Directed at Yamaha, not Sam Ash) without an A/C adaptor is like selling you tires for your car without valve stems. That's kind of lame as no one is going to go for the batteries only option.

Comments about Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Set:

I had been searching for a quality electronic drum kit for practicing at home for a while now. This kit out-performs comparable kits in the same price range, and even kits that cost hundreds of dollars more. The pads have a good amount of rebound and response (with proper technique), with excellent sensitivity for a kit of its price and design, and the kit itself is comfortable to use when set up just right on a snare stand. The rather unresponsive bass drum and hi-hat pedals are the only detriment to this product's overall performance, but this shortcoming is easy to adjust to.

Comments about Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Set:

I bought this product because I play in a church praise and worship band. I needed to play in a different area than my kit was set up in. So, I thought this would be simple and easy. It has been great. One must remember this is NOT a drum kit. Take it for what it is and you will be fine. The sounds are good. The snare pad has a slight trigger overtone with the tom tom but, not enough to worry about. I took a bass drum pedal and a hi hat pedal from and old simmons kit and it worked great. So, there are ways around the pedals if you do not like the ones that come with it. Overall, it has a good sound and is very easy to use. Again, just remember how much you paid for it, and that it is what it is and you will be satisfied.

Comments about Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Set:

FIRST REVIEW IS BS. The first review for this item is COMPLETELY false. He must work for Yamaha or an affiliated company to Yamaha. The drums sounds just ok but are for kids at best not for an adult performance. POOR SOUND The bass drum sounds extremely poor and is too too soft like something from a toy store unit. The songs you can play along with sound equally cheap and tinny like something from an 80's casio keyboard back in the day. It sounds very much like that. [...]POOR EXPANDIBILITY They also told me that more songs could be downloaed from Yamaha's website I checked it out on the web AND the songs there sound equally cheap and tinny. just like the early polyphonic ring tones on cell phones. insult to injury the songs are like $5.95 per soong. THE BOTTOM LINEReally ridiculous. In terms of that, it's only well suited for your young son or daughter. pad sensitivity is weak. only supports general midi. really bad "musicians guarantee".

Comments about Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Set:

Ok, as a practice unit, you play it thru headphones and the sound quality is brilliant. Lots of kits to choose from. Hi Hat takes work in open/close mose when you stick it.
When you play thru a PA system. ...LOOK OUT...sounds like you are in a 10,000 seat arena w/ a live miked drum set. NO Difference. This is the real deal if you want to get a look and feel of a drum set w/o the weight...What a unit.

great machine, except it does not come with the AC adapter. So be sure to pick one up or the 6 C batteries it takes to use it. I got this for a gift for someone and didn't realized it needed batteries b/c no AC adapter was included, I tried using one from my cordless phone but not enough juice I guess [...]
