let me start by saying that this is not a bad kit at all. Everything works great and I have had no problems with it. However, once you start improving, you will want something bigger and better. Sure it's small, simple and light, but once again as you improve, you will want more variety and more options. In addition to that, this kit isn't so great if your on the taller side. It's awkward to play on if your big. I feel kind of cramped playing it. All in all I suggest buying it for a kid or teenager. However if you are an adult breaking into electronic drumming avoid this product.

I just came out of retirement after 17 years!!! And this was the first kit I decided on after looking at several different acoustic and e-kits. They sound AWESOME with a good set of headphones.

Nice thing about e-kits is that you can play as quiet or as loud as you like.

I love the snare pad, and one of the kits has a double bass feature. It does only come with 10 kits, but how many do you need.

Also on the double bass kit, you get a cowbell and a china trigger for some real rockin'!!!!
However it would be nice to have a little more variety.
Other negative is that you can't expand.

You can connect it to your pc and record your solo's. You can play along to your favorite bands.

I connect mine to my 150 watt home stereo if I want an amp. I will get a monitor later on.

For the money....this is a nice little kit. And it may be small, but it is mighty!!!

I have been looking for an electronic drumkit for some time now. I went to diferent music stores and tried every electronic kit on the market (practically), Now, granted I am using this kit for mainly Home Recording use and will not be going out on the road playing gigs. After about 3 weeks of researching and testing products out, I went with Roland HD1, now I know what your thinking, thats a beginners kit, on the contrary, I wanted roland quality but I didnt want to pay more money for a module that I would not be using (even though their module drum kit sounds are pretty good). I have the module on the HD1 hooked up to a M-AUDIO Firewire 410 via Midi connection, and now, I have thousands of drumkits to choose from (the HD1 acts as a controller, much like a keyboard does, so I just pick and choose different kits on my computer's hardrive using pro tools or reason). The response time is flawless, the snare mesh head and gum-rubber tom pads provide just enough realistic bounce, the crash, ride and hi hat placement are just in the right spot for comfort, and the 10 kits that come in the module are probably the 10 most popular kits they make. One thing this kit has that no other roland kit has, is its wonderful space saving and easy setup capability. The kit can fit into almost any room imaginable (my kit is taking up only 4' x 4' of space, and thats with my drum throne with plenty of playing room).Now there are some downsides that can be overlooked. The Roland HD1 has the hi hat and kick pedal built into the unit, good thing is that you dont have to buy any hardware, bad thing is that you cant do double bass. But with a little bit of thinking, I managed to split the cable signal to the kick pedal ($20 MONSTER CABLE Y-Adapter 1/4" female to two 1/4" male), and now both pedals become double bass all the time, now what do you do with the hi hat cable? Well just buy any control pedal (Roland FD8 $115 or Alesis DM5 $50) and there you have it, you got a complete double bass drum kit. Second downside, the built in pedals do take some getting use to and have alot of bounce to them, my solution, I controlled the tension of the pedal with rubberbands (Its hard to envision, if you want pics, i can send it to you to show you what i mean), its the same concept of adjusting the tension of any kick pedal, the more rubberbands, the more tension. Now one thing you cannot control or fix is the height limitation on this kit, I have found that taller people (5'10 and up) have a difficult time adjusting to the kit, good thing im 5'8. Now, in total, this kit costed me close to [$] (after all the upgrades and adjustments that were made), Now granted that the next kit above the HD1 is the Roland TD3SW costing [$], you will still need a double bass drum pedal which will bring the price up another [$].Granted, my scenario is not everyone's scenario, but I look at it this way, you still get quality Roland technology, compact design (great for small rooms or traveling to shows), you have the midi connection (hook up to a laptop, pc or mac and use protools, garageband, reason, etc), you also have an aux connection for mp3 players so you can play along with any song you wish, and best feature of all, it wont cost you that much for the kit alone (even if you choose to do the upgrades that I did).I have been playing drums for over 11 years, I have owned around 7 drumkits all together (tama imperial star, sonor force 2007, Pearl Traveler's kit, Tama Rockstar Custom, Yamaha tour custom, etc), this is my first Electronic drum kit and I am completely satisfied with my purchase (especially that I live in a quiet neighborhood and the HD1 practically makes no noise what so ever). I give it a two thumbs up.

This drum is great!
i love the tom toms, great improvement.
the kick and the high hat are kinda weird though but after a while, u get used 2 it. set up was really fast and its really nice and compact.
it saves a ton of space and its versatile.
one thing i dont like is how you cant edit the sounds like making snare sound like tom tom or crash like ride, etc. otherwise, its great for a first drum or for a beginner

This is a great Roland Product. [...] At first I was worried about the kick pedal, cus it dosen't look too responsive but after trying it out for 20 min...I found out that it was brilliant. But if one is looking for a 100% solid pedal feel, then this kit is not for you. [Got to try it to like it] note: in my opinion, the pedal is 100% responsive/sensitive and it has the "floating strap pedal feel to it too"All the other parts of the drums were equally responsive and sensitive...the cymbals were awesome too. [At least theres a bell to hit on the ride, 2 zone pads...i think] not sure about the snare though...if it has the rim shot feature or not...but above all this kit is great and its compact and perfect :Dps. its not too expensive either, but again you really have to try the pedal yourself...my taste might be different than yours...I dno ;)

I tried this out in store also, and its very difficult to get used to if you're over 5'8" tall. The new pedal design takes a little getting used to, but should be relatively easy to pick up in no time. Unless you're in dire need of something compact, I'd opt for the Yamaha DTX series.

I tried this out in the store a couple of days ago. The sound quality is perfect, and set #2 on the control panel activates the double bass.I was indecisive between this and the [$] one, but will probably get this to save a few hundred, and a plus for me (with people living below), is not having to use a standard kick pedal. Also, the new surface for the toms is a huge upgrade and improvement.

This set is great for the price. The pad's are sensitive as anything! It will never miss a ''hit'' if you play soft or loud! [...]: You can play double bass on it, it's drum set 2... This set will work for anything almost practice, rehearsal, performance (depends). The only thing that is bad that there is no ''real kick pad'' so it affects just the looks. But, that doesn't matter so much. Overall, I would recommend this great product by Roland to anyone!

I purchased this product and it works really good for practicing and keeping it silent in the house. Its a good travel kit to practice with too. The only downside is, you can't add a double kick or an add-on pedal. As you can see, on the left is the high hat, the right is for the foot, you can't make the left to act as a double kick either. But its a good kit aside from that. Great sound! Price is still a little high for this kit.
