With a frequency response of 60 to 15,000 Hz, it is tuned perfectly for the human voice, whether it be singing lead out in front of the band or speaking in front of a packed house.
It is set in a cardioid pattern, which means it picks its sound up from in front of the mic and rejects sounds from the sides and rear. This helps enable the Shure PG58 to get plenty loud without nasty feedback creeping in and ruining the day. A built-in internal shockmount enables you to handle the microphone while keeping rumble and overall noise to a minimum. There is also an internal pop-filter that helps to reduce plosives (like excessive “S” and “P's"), which can possibly ruin an otherwise great performance.
A very handy On/Off switch keeps you in control of the PG58’s status and serves as a panic-switch in the event where you just can’t wait for the sound engineer to mute the mic. A hard steel mesh-ball grille protects the cartridge from falls or abuse and keeps the PG58 intact even when in constant use.
