The Micro BR is so small you can put it in your pocket! It measures just 136.0 mm x 81.0 mm x 21.4 mm (5-3/8" x 3-3/16" x 7/8"). But even though it’s tiny, the Micro BR packs an entire studio’s worth of features into its tiny case. There are a dozen buttons on its front panel, nine knobs, and even a built-in microphone for quick capture.

Four Tracks & More

At its core, the Micro BR is a four-track studio with four simultaneous playback tracks and two simultaneous record / input tracks.However, there’s more to this recorder than meets the eye. Each of the four main playback tracks also has eight companion V-Tracks (for a total of 32), so you can record take after take after take, then pick your best material for final mixdown.

Drum Machine & Effects Onboard

Given the Micro BR’s small size and low price, you might be surprised to find the next two features onboard: (1) Almost 300 drum patterns are included. Use them for play-along inspiration or even as song foundations. The rhythms don’t consume any of the four playback tracks — they play back independently. (2) A quality multi-effects processor is onboard, including a time-stretch algorithm for changing the tempo of your audio tracks without changing pitch — a great tool for both audio editing and phrase training. The Time Stretch feature can also be used with MP3 data; the Micro BR's Center Cancel feature can be applied to MP3 data as well.

MP3 Compatibility

The Micro BR is capable of loading and playing MP3 files. Load up your favorite guitar hero song via USB, slow down the tempo with no pitch change, and learn all of your favorite licks. You can even use the Micro BR as a standard MP3 player. All of your data is stored on convenient SD (Secure Digital) media found in common electronics shops. The included 128MB card, for example, can record approximately 65 minutes of audio when one mono track is selected.

MP3 Shortfall

I purchased this primarily as a guitar trainer that offered the additional bonus of being able to record tracks. I cannot speak to the other functionality of this unit because I never got past trying to load and play MP3 for training purposes While I'm sure that the rest of the functions are probably great, the MP3 playback on this unit falls far short of the mark...surprising as Boss usually dishes up nice products. MP3's have been around for a very long time and having some basic functionality in this area shouldn't be all that difficult. Unfortunately, I never could load and play anything other than the one that came loaded on it. I tried down-ripping from existing MP3's and I got "unsupported format" errors. I re-ripped from the original CD's with the same result. In addition, it only supports 8-character filenames whcih means you must rename every file in some creative way that you can hopefully remember later on. After spending about four hours trying everything I could think of, and then reading reviews by others who have had the same experience, I finally packed it up and returned it. I bought the Tascam MP-GT1 which worked flawlessly from the start. If you're looking for a trainer, the Tascam is much easier to use for this. Would have been nice to have the recording capability and drum machine for [$], but it didn't work out.

AFTER EXTENIVE USE, IT ACTUALLY SOUNDS BETTER THAN MY EDIROL/DELL COMPUTER,AND IT IS EASIER TO USE ONCE YOU GO THRU THE LEARNING CURVE.YOU HAVE TO HAVE PATIENCE,AND LOTS OF IT.YOU HAVE TO USE A PREAMP TO GO IN THE PREAMPS FOR IT TO SOUND RIGHT.I USE A DIGITECH AMP SIMULATOR,SUCH AS A RP50 TO GET THE BOSS TO SOUND RIGHT.MASTERING EFFECTS ARE NOT AS GOOD AS THE OLD BR532 WAS.PRE-RECORDED MUSIC HAS TO BE PRETTY CLEAN SOUNDING IN ORDER TO MIX SINCE MASTERING EFFECTS DO NOT HELP MUCH.I CAN PLAY MY GUITAR THRU BOSS AND OUTPUT TO A PORTABLE SPKR.AND RECORD ON BOSS AT THE SAME TIME WITH SPKR.RECORDING IN OUTSIDE MIC AT THE SAME TIME,GNARLY AND IT SOUNDS GREAT.HOW MANY RECORDING DEVICES HAVE YOU SEEN DO THIS? this thing actually makes my computer obsolete and plus it is totally portable for outside playing and you can re-edit patches for monstrous gain levels ,for your live guitar and it sounds analog instead of that hollow sounding digital.originating guitar tracks made inside sounds better than pre-recorded music outside unless it already sounds clean.music made on the outside with a behringer v-amp-2 is very compatible with boss.single coils pickups really sounds good with this unit,and mixes better because of their cutting tone.i have found that my worst guitar ,a strat copy with a single coil pup turned out sounding better than my more expensive guitars with humbuckers.stats have ,to my ears,a more natural sound.a steep learning curve is in order,but the unit has a lot of powerfor such a small unit.it makes your mixes sound live,like you are listening to a live concert in a stadium arena depending on how much reverb you use.presets are good as they are i have found when playing my live guitar with my rp50,but i had to modifiy blues driver preamp and my strat sounds like a cool gnarly road house strat or a heavy metal guitar.the drums are a big improvement over my old drum machine,crisp and clear and the sounds are adjustable soft or hard.the quality of the mixes i have already gotten has paid for the bossand i may even buy the br-600 since i have made $[...] dollars already off my music cd's.AT THE VERY LEAST ADD A APHEX 204 OR JUST BUY A BR-600. I WAS DISAPPOINTED AT FIRST BUT THE PROOF IS IN THE SOUND AND IT DOES PRODUCE GOOD SOUND.
