I was the first one who gave a review on this particular subwoofer. The cabinets sound very good. But on the other hand, I found that these subs do not last long between gigs. I'm using these subs on amplifiers with enough power, and while I was doing a wedding reception, one sub popped, and I was left using my full range speakers to finish the gig. The woofer is not reliable for my duties. I took the woofer out of the box and found that it only had a 3" voice coil, it was very light and it seemed "cheap". This company should not say this woofer handles 1400 watts when it only handle 350 watts peak. If I had known it was a weak speaker, I wouldn't have put so much power into it. I'm still using the Crest ca9 which is rated at 900 watts per channel at 4 ohms. this subwoofer cannot handle alot of power, but it sounds good. Because I'm not satisfied with the power handling and the company dosen't cover the woofer, I took the JBL logos off the cabinets and I'm now looking into using, Cerwin Vega, Eminenice, EV or B&C woofers. JBL, thanks for the cabinets.

I was in the market for a pair of subwoofers for my gym and the occasional party. Having EV Eliminator i mains I figured I would audition some EV subs. I spent a few hours listening to EV Eliminator I subs and tweaking the DriveRack at the local store.

I ended up getting the Eliminator I subs home and was not happy with them because the low end frequency response is lacking for a true subwoofer. Now I have a pair of the JRX118’s and could not be happier. The build quality is great. The size, output and frequency response is outstanding.

A few friends came to demo the JRX vs. the new MRX and all of us thought the JRX bass was deeper then the MRX. The JRX sensitivity is also better which makes up for it’s slightly lower power handling.

Anyway these subs kick out some articulate, deep bass that will easily fill a small to medium sized room and also work great outdoors.

"I use these cabinets on a Crest ca9 amplifier. Because the speaker is rated at 4 ohms, it puts the amp in the 4 ohm mode. So when I crank these subs on that ca9, I'm doing a raw 900 watts on each channel with no eq, no processor. The only thing that I have on these subs is a crossover tuned down at 40Hz and all you hear is boom! boom! boom! They sound like I have my Cerwin vega L36 cabinets on. The only flaw that they have with me is that when I'm playing them on that level, they tend to dance a little bit because the're light weight. Otherwise, these subs raises eyebrows. If you want results like I have, buy an amp that has at least 800 to 900 watts at 4 ohms and with a damping factor of 700 plus. (may I suggest Crown Mac's or the Crest ca series)."
