I bought the unit about 3 years ago at the Rancho Cucamonga Sam Ash store. I was visiting California and had to fly home. This was the only unit that would fit in my suitcase; it is extremely small but is loaded with features including numerous preprogrammed drum lines and guitar and bass modulating functions. Owning this has been a great pleasure. I have used it to record my own pieces, laying track over track. I play mostly guitar and bass, and a little piano. I use it by selecting a drum track (built into the recorder), play along with it with rhythm guitar, then add my bass separately, then other effects such as keyboard and solo guitar tracks. The BR600 is relatively simple to learn to use; one has to have the patience to read through the manual which describes its use very well. I have found the ability to record myself as a means to teach myself to play songs better; the finished product sounds great. The only drawback to the model is that Boss has not done a good job of making the CF Flash card capavility large enough or universal enough. As another reviewer has noted you need to upgrade to the 1 GB card to make this funtional (the 128 MB provided is pretty much useless) and most types of such cards turn out to be incompatible with this unit. Be careful to read the enclosed documentation so you know which ones are compatible. Boss should also increase the memory capacity of the card as 1 GB is pretty small by todays standards.

I use it all the time. I record the music I'm practicing in one track, record the backing track in another track and then use it to record my guitar in another track. it's great way to listen to yourself and try to get better. I use the bass simulator to lay some bass lines and try to create my own music. The drum patterns are nice too, but a bit too complicate to use ( I have no clue about drum playing so maybe that's my problem). Sometimes I use it to also record my guitar teacher lesson of the week and it works great for that as well. I paid us[$](after a 15% discount) and I think its a great product for the price. I suggest upgrading the CF card for a 1Gb because the 128mb it comes with it's a bit small.

You cannot leave the recorder on until it fills up and and expect the unit to stop and save automatically. If the card fills up then the unit simply locks up and the last recording is not saved.

When I asked the Manufacturer about this, they simply said that there is no patch for this behavior. The machine was unable to complete the recording process, due to running out of space. Their only advice was to make sure you don't leave it running for the entire duration of the card without stopping and saving your song. You can press STOP+REC to store the song whenever the recorder is stopped.

The problem is that I was recording an event that went on for almost 2 hours and not just one song, so not one minute of the event was captured. Somehow you have to know intuitively when the card is almost full and then stop and save because there are no indicators to suggest that the card is almost full.
