I got this amp because you CANNOT beat the price for a comparable 90 watt 15in combo... sure Behringer can, but Hartke is 200% more reliable and durable.

I use this amp primarily for practice, and all was going well until our guitarist showed up with a 100 watt Peavey Valveking tube amp that drownded my bass amp.

Using an Aphex Big Bottom, the built-in shape knob, and 3 band EQ, I was able to get my 4 string to sound VERY large in this amp, and could play along with my other band members without being drowned out. However, hitting my bottom B-string ALWAYS made a farty noise in the amp. You have to be willing to trade off some volume if you consistently use your 5 string.

This amp is really designed for a 4 string. I played an Epiphone SG 4 string through it, and it sounded loud and tight.

I would recommend this for someone who plays alongside a solid state guitar amp, needs a tight bass sound out of a 4 string, needs a good practice/small club amp, and doesn't have the cash to go with something better (the Hartke's with HyDrive have both more power AND better speakers).

Because my guitarist makes it necessary for me to move more air, I am buying the Hartke XV3500 today (4 10-in speakers at 350 watts). However, I am keeping my B900 around to use as a guitar amp. My guitar sounded absolutely sick being played through this amp. You can easily get a growling, pure evil sound out of this amp if its used as a guitar amp.

So, overall, GREAT amp for the price... GOOD amp for a 4 string in practice or small club... and you CANNOT go wrong with Hartke (only thing close to Hartke in price is Behringer, but the Hartke is closer in quality to an Ampeg).
