Comments about Toca Graphix Globe Shaker:

I'm on this site because after using this shaker for 2 1/2 years at well over 150 live shows, the inevitable happened and I lost it. I use it as the main shaker with my hand percussion setup and it was still serving me well when it went MIA. Looks like it'll set me back a whole 10 bones for a new one! I found it to be the perfect shaker for me in a few ways. First of all it's a little over twice the size of an egg shaker, making much easier to hold in even the sweatiest of conditions. The size is good for grabbing or putting back down on the fly if you need to do that kind of thing in the middle of a song. It is also at least twice as loud as an egg shaker, so it doesn't have to be right in front of a mic to be heard at moderate stage volume, or you won't get drowned out by an army of guitars and loud, drunken singers around the campfire. The sound is similar to an egg, but brighter overall. The material inside is more coarse, so it doesn't have that really fine shicka-shicka you get from an egg. It's a little closer to a high-hat chick, which is what I'm going for.Another pleasant discovery was that it is more that sturdy enough to strike a cymbal with, and after 2 1/2 years, my Paiste Signature 14" isn't even marked up from it. Its round shape also makes it fine for striking a hand drum. I've tried doing the same with a non round shaker and it's dented my head.So if you're looking for something a little larger and louder than the legendary egg shaker, I'd say its well worth your [$]bucks.
