This drum is really something special… I’m serious, just look at the title! Taye’s 14” x 7” Specialty Hybrid Walnut/Maple Snare is a unique drum that is sure to put a smile on any drummers face. This 10-ply shell is a true work of art. With two outer and inner plies of Walnut and 6-ply maple core this drum is perfect for any scenario. The maple helps give this drum a warm, full-bodied sound that’s extremely loud and resonant while also having an extremely vast tuning range. This allows the drum to sound good pitched low, cranked real tight, and everywhere in between. Walnut on the other hand is a much more complex wood; it has a darker overall fundamental and is extremely sensitive. This helps make ghost notes, and lighter playing soft yet pronounced. By combining these two woods into one sleek, elegant looking shell, Taye gives you a drum that sounds perfect in any dynamic range and at any tuning. This drum also includes 6-ply North American Sugar Maple Reinforcement Hoops.  Reinforcement hoops interrupt the natural vibrations of the shell, helping focus in its sound. The combination of the reinforcement hoops and natural walnut finish give this drum a classy, timeless look. It really is a modern-vintage drum.

The folks at Taye didn’t skimp out on the hardware either. This drum comes equipped with triple-flange hoops, tube lugs, and a sidelatch throw-off. The 2.3mm triple-flange hoops are often livelier than their die-cast counter parts, as they allow the drums to breathe a bit more. This helps open up the sound of the drum, making it more boomy and resonant. This allows your snare to cut through anything while still having that sharp articulate side sticking and rim-shot. The tube lugs on the other hand are a low mass lug that is capable of handling high tensions. This guarantees steady and accurate tuning without adding any additional weight to the shell. The sidelatch throw-off is also another wonderful innovation from the folks at Taye. This reliable and sturdy piece of hardware guarantees accurate snare tension time and time again. It features a knurled tension knob for quick and easy adjustments and a Sliplock feature that that prevents unwanted loosening or slipping over prolonged periods of play.

It no wonder this drum is part of their specialty line! It’s so dynamic and versatile that you will be sure to find yourself using it time and time again. Taye really hit the nail on the head creating the perfect modern-vintage drum. It has all of the tonal qualities of some of our favorite drums of yesteryear and comes equipped with innovative, futuristic hardware. Now it’s up to you to make an impact in the present with this unbelievable drum.

Comments about Taye 14' x 7" Specialty Hybrid Walnut/Maple Snare Drum:

I just played it for five minutes and it was apparent that this is a special drum that you really don't want to dampen because it sounds so sweet. You CAN but you really shouldn't.
The bottom lugs were so loose they were almost falling off. I am not into tuning drums all day. I tightened the bottom head pretty tight. Adjusted the strainer. Tensioned the top head a bit looser than the bottom. (No Remo Ambassador head but this head sounded comparable).
SWEET! It is ready to go. I can fool with it more later but I got what I expected: a sweet, versatile, powerful yet warm drum. Now I am going to look into Taye sets. If they sound as good as this drum I will very very happy.
