Comments about Tama PBR146 6x14 Starphonic Snare Drum (Nickle Plated Brass):

The Starphonic Brass snare drum is my favorite overall snare and replaced my Starclassic Bubinga snare drum as my main snare drum. I have used the drum for about 8 months now.

The drum has a classy vintage look to it. The drum has a nice weight to it. It is loud and warm with a great attack. Sounds great in all tuning ranges, although I keep mine around medium. Not difficult to tune, including (re-)tuning the bottom head thanks to the removable snare butt. Sounds great in a lot of different settings, including good ol' rock 'n roll. Great tone and sounds open, yet not a lot of ringing to it, either. Have not had to use the E ring that comes with it.

The only con is the Evans snare side batter head that comes with it. The coating stuck to the hoop making it difficult to separate. I have since replaced the head and sounds even better.

The drum comes with a tuning key and Evans E Ring (which I did not need to use, the drum sounds perfectly fine without it). As for high-end snare drums, this is actually towards the affordable range which gives it great value. Highly, highly recommended. This brass drum converted me over from wooden snare drums.
