Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS (Short Scale) Bass Guitar:

I have been playing Electric Guitar but after playing my friends Bass, i wanted to pick up my own. It is a lot lighter then his BC Rich bass & my Squire Telecaster. The contoured shape makes it comfortable to play for long periods of time. The short scale has made it effortless to go back and forth between Guitar and Bass. I am still an amateur but so far it sounds great and looks fantastic. For the price, I feel like I got a good deal.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS (Short Scale) Bass Guitar:

I've been playing since about 92-93ish mostly with very heavy percision basses with thick necks and heavy gauge flatwounds.
I decided I wanted something easier, lighter and more managable to play with out sacraficing tone, and with out spending alot of money.
This bass was the best thing. It is very nice to play with nice low action, skinny neck, standard string spacing, and light weight.
I bought this bass when they first came out, so I've had it for like a year or two.
It's a little awkward to play standing up because of the size and the shape, but nothing you can't get used to. It might not be so awkward for someone who is very small. I am 5'9" 145lbs with small fat hands. It is very nice to play sitting down.

This bass looks, sounds and plays great. As good as a bass double it's price.
I have the black on black.
The OEM bridge wasn't bad, but I thought it would look cooler with a black one so the first week I had it I put on a Gotoh bridge and a set of Rotosound RS88S. Looks and sounds awesome with the heavy gauge black flatwounds and heavy black bridge!
I play mostly with the P-bass pickups, The J-bass pickup barely on, and the tone all the way off.
My small amp is a single 12" Vox T60 combo amp. My big amp is a Peavey Nitro Bass Head plugged into a late 60's Sunn 2x15 cabinet with Peavey Black Widows.
The stock pickups aren't bad. You aren't going to get anything better for the price. One of these days when I get around to it I am going to change the knobs to a 250k master volume, 500k master tone, and a panner knob for the pickups. I think that would give it a slightly deeper tone, and make it easier to control and fine tune the sound.
My tone style is somewhere between Led Zeppelin, Sublime, and Hammond organ bass pedals.

All in All I would say this bass is great for anyone who is small, starting out, an old timer that just wants something cheap and easy to play, or a guitar player who just wants to mess around.
Yes you can get a nicer bass, but not for the price. You are going to need to spend at least $400-$500 to get anything nicer, and it will only be slightly nicer till you spend at least $700-$800+.
I was very surprised to find something that was not only worth playing for under $300, but it actually plays and sounds decent, and it isn't used and beat up.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS (Short Scale) Bass Guitar:

After playing Trumpet for about forty years, I have wanted to play bass for a long time, so I decided to get a Jaguar Short Scale after trying an Ibanez GSR 200, and Sguire Jazz Base in the starter pack. Build quality, action, and finish are all superb! After not being happy with the previous two basses[...] I drove there and picked one up. When I took it out of the box, I was amazed at the quality of this bass! It was nicer than instruments costing several times as much! Only disappointment was the fact that Fender / Squire does not include ANY documentation in the box! NOTHING! I confirmed this with a phone call to Fender. Kudos to Ibabez in this department as they give instructions regarding truss rod adjustments and such. All in all, a great bass for little money! Sam Ash has a customer for life!
