The SGJ14 delivers contemporary SG Standard-style tone and playability at an unprecedented price.

The raw and ready SGJ14 derives its timeless Les Paul-style tone from Gibson’s new ’61 Zebra humbucking pickups, crafted in the image of the hallowed original PAF humbuckers, but updated for the power and versatility required by today’s music. Further 2014 120th Anniversary additions include new larger no-slip strap buttons, black Max Grip Speed Knobs, a GraphTech nut, long-life proprietary coated guitar strings, cryogenic treated fret wire for longer life and corrosion resistance, a full PLEK setup, and a 120th Anniversary logo inlay at the 12th fret. Put it all together with the legendary Gibson playability, and the new SGJ14 is ready to rock, at a truly breathtaking price.

Body and neck The SGJ14 is crafted in the image of the original SG Standard, with an asymmetrical double-cutaway body for excellent upper-fret access. It’s made from solid mahogany, with a glued-in maple neck with a ‘50s profile. The rosewood fingerboard is topped with a GraphTech™ nut, and carries 24 cryogenic-treated frets for long life and corrosion resistance, with dot inlays and a commemorative 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Pickups and electronics The guitar carries a pair of Gibson’s new ’61 Zebra humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge position. These pickups are built with the power to rock, excelling in heavy crunch and wailing lead tones, yet the clean up beautifully for mellower moments, adapting themselves to your every need. They are wired through the traditional complement of independent volume and tone controls, and a three-way selector switch.

Hardware Following the stripped-down ethos of the SGJ14, the guitar carries no pickguard and the minimum of ready-to-rock hardware. A satin chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor it all down for outstanding resonance and sustain, while retro tulip-button tuners retain a vintage look, and enlarged strap buttons (new for 2014) keep your guitar secure throughout the set.

Case and coverage The SGJ14 comes protected in a Gibson gig bag, includes a truss-rod wrench and owner’s manual, and is covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson’s 24/7/365 Customer Service.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ Electric Guitar:

I went in to get a different guitar I had been researching and playing at other locations. As I was in the store, I saw the Gibson SGJ in Vintage Sunburst. I played the SGJ and the other guitar I was looking at for about 2 hours. Both played great but the sound of the SGJ was the clincher. These are awesome pickups. I have no regrets whatsoever. The only thing I did not care for was the volume and tone knobs. It's just personal preference but I changed them out for black top hat knobs instead.

An American made Gibson for $549!

'61 Alnico V pickups sound like a warm PAF, Nitrocellulose finish is nice. Some complain that it scratches easily but it wears very nicely and gets shiny and broken in quickly.

Take some time and set it up (or have a Sam Ash Luthier set it up for you) and it's as good as any Gibson on the wall.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ Electric Guitar:

The guitar was in desperate need of a set-up which I had performed. After that the intonation, playability and its ability to stay in tune improved dramatically. I received some nice comments about the guitar as well when I picked it up from the guitar shop. Gibson did do an overall nice job with this guitar which is good since I bought it sight unseen. I always wanted an SG, just couldn't afford a standard model, so this SGJ fit the bill perfectly price wise. I am not a professional nor have I played for year and years, but to my ears the pickups sound just fine and with my tube amp I can get a wide range of tones. On the downside, the neck radius is a bit bigger than I anticipated but not a deal breaker. Overall I am satisfied with this SGJ and look forward to playing it for some time.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ Electric Guitar:

I have many guitars, including a 2012 gibson standard les paul and a 70's tribute, PRS 408, JTV 59 etc. I play through a Mesa dual rectifier. The pickups on this are truly phenomal. Incredible touch/ pick attack/ volume sensitivity. Top end sounds bright and single coil like. Dials back to Les Paul darkness. Like the best PAF pickups I've played

The neck is beautiful. I did play several SGJs before finding one that I liked.

This guitar could have saved me thousands in searching for that PAF gibson tone. My absolute favorite.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SGJ Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for anyone that plays. The neck is very fast and the tone is top of the line, but I guess some would prefer P90s. I cant believe that Gibson can give us a guitar at such a cheep price, when the Epi 400 pro is 400 dollars. I play all styles of music and this ax has foot the bill every time through my Vox AC15. If you want an SG I would tell you go buy this guitar and you would not look back. Forgot to mention the setup out of the box was right on spot.
