The Selmer AS42 is a first ever collaboration between Henri Selmer Paris and Selmer USA on an entry-level professional saxophone. Featuring a genuine Selmer Paris neck custom designed for this horn, along with an exclusive Selmer Paris mouthpiece made especially for this saxophone, the AS42 is a very responsive saxophone that plays remarkably well in classical and jazz situations. Complemented with a BAM case and featuring a beautiful hand engraved pattern, the AS42 is as beautiful to look at as it is to play.

Blue steel springs insure a quick response while the fully ribbed construction and metal resonators guarantee a wide dynamic range and exceptional projection. The AS42 is the only saxophone in its price range that can boast an authentic Henri Selmer Paris neck and mouthpiece!

    Compare and hear/feel the difference

Comments about Selmer AS42 Professional Alto Saxophone:

Just had the opportunity to play test the AS42 against other saxes in the Sam Ash Hollywood store. I used my own Otto Link 6* mouthpiece. Immediately struck by how much this horn feels like a Selmer Paris saxophone in the hands. Everything felt comfortable. And playing wise, It was smooth and focused. Actually I would probably pick it head to head over my Mark VI. I then compared to the lesser price AS32. It was a noticeable difference. The AS32 felt and sounded more like a student horn. For comparison's sake, I then played a P. Mauriat 67RC, in about the same price range. The Mauriat just felt too different in the hands, it wasn't a comfortable horn, and had a more of a stuffy sound. Next to compare against, was a Yanagisawa 991. Again, the layout of the keys just didn't feel right, and the tone wasn't as centered or focused. So, surprisingly, the Selmer USA AS42 was the best horn of the bunch, hands down. Don't necessarily believe everything you read online, go into the store and play for yourself. And don't be afraid of a Taiwan made sax, this is a good one!

Fabulous horn. Great pro level piece that sounds and plays fantastic. I don't feel up to the level of this sax yet, but that's why we practice.

Great tone from bottom to altissimo. Great feel, consistent tone and stayed locked on. Essentially a Series II with a Series III neck and mouthpiece. A very good horn for the player who enjoys the Selmer sound, wants top quality tone and feel, but can't afford Paris III prices. A must try for anyone interested in a new alto sax!

Selmer has been at the top of the pack for quite some time, and this amazing horn continues that tradition. With the newer Paris neck piece, selmer series mouthpiece, and a professional style case, this is the perfect package for the saxophone player ready to step up their game into a Pro model. A beautiful finish with gorgeous etching make this a dream to see as well as hear.

Comments about Selmer AS42 Professional Alto Saxophone:

The AS-42 is one of the better entry level pro horns out there. It has a great sound quality and is super easy to play. I played it with a Selmer C* and got a great full sound out of it. It's easy to play through all of the ranges and is great to listen to. If you're looking for a good pro horn, I suggest looking and trying this one out.

Comments about Selmer AS42 Professional Alto Saxophone:

This is an awesome saxophone! I have loved it for as long as I've had it! The responsiveness on it is AMAZING. The keys are smooth and even harder notes to hit, like the low Bb and even up into the altissimo range, become a lot easier to reach on this sax. I personally prefer Selmer saxes over any other brand because of the beautiful warm tones that their saxophones have. The case and mouthpiece that come with it are excellent as well! No complaints here!

Comments about Selmer AS42 Professional Alto Saxophone:

I tried this Selmer AS42 with both a Meyer mouthpiece and an Ottolink SuperTone and loved the sound with both setups. This is a versatile horn, good for jazz or classical, but it really pops when using a jazz setup. This would be a great horn for the advancing student or for someone who wants a great sounding horn but doesn't want to break the bank.

The AS42 is an awesome horn from Selmer. For an entry into the pro level saxophones, this horn delivers quality tone and construction you would expect from a company as legendary as Selmer. The Selmer Paris neck gives great response and is a fine addition to this saxophone. This instrument would be great for anyone looking to upgrade from their student or intermediate horn.
