The PRS SE Custom 24 pays homage to the guitar Paul Reed Smith took to his first tradeshow in 1985 and is now offered with a Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo.

The Custom 24 Electric Guitar has been Paul Reed Smith’s flagship model since he began in 1985. The Custom body style quickly rose to prominence in the hands of Carlos Santana and other elite players. The body of the SE "Floyd" Custom 24 is carved from mahogany and is outfitted with a pair of PRS-designed humbuckers that will deliver sustain for days on end as well as absolutely timeless tone, whether you are playing clean blues runs or scorching rock solos. A flame maple veneer tops off this beauty; giving the SE Custom its classic, vintage appeal. The SE "Floyd" Custom boasts SE HFS and SE Vintage Bass pickups paired with a push-pull tone control and 3-way blade pickup switch for coil tapping.

The neck is carved from mahogany into a luxurious fast-action wide thin profile with a rosewood fingerboard. Players will love the absolute ease and playability of the SE "Floyd" Custom 24.  The 24 fret rosewood fingerboard boasts the familiar PRS bird inlays as standard appointments. The Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo is Korean-made with the same design and high-quality materials as the "Original." Finally, a Deluxe PRS Gig Bag is included.

Comments about Paul Reed Smith SE "Floyd" Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

I've been playing on and off for about 44 years and have wanted a Custom 24 since I first played one back in '96. The versatile sound and wide thin neck impressed me to no end. I play mostly classic rock - Eagles, Skynyrd, Van Halen.

Since I had some time to kill, and was just around the corner from my local Sam Ash store, I decided to stop by - my first visit to Sam Ash. Upon entering the store, I started looking at the Custom 24s.

One of the sales managers had me try the SE Custom 24 with Floyd Rose tremolo. I also tried an S2. I've owned mostly Strats, all with tremolos, but had never played a Floyd Rose before. The last time I tried the SE line (about 10 years ago), I was very disappointed with the fact that they couldn't stay in tune, and for that reason, I had been unwilling to consider buying one. Well, it seems the addition of the Floyd Rose has pretty much eliminated that problem (unless PRS has made other changes to this model), at least with the 2 SEs I tried. I stretched the living daylights out of those strings, and they stayed in tune fairly well.

It's a beautiful guitar - the finish (I went over it with a fine tooth comb) is impeccable. The action is good, although not quite as low and smooth as an Epiphone Les Paul Custom I also tried (the LP didn't stay in tune very well, however).

The pickups are versatile - nice, creamy humbucker sound, and the coil splits add versatility, although they don't sound as sparkly as my strat with samarium cobalt single coils (but the SE is a MUCH less expensive guitar, and it stands to reason that the pickups are not going to be top of the line).

The frets had no rough edges and are comfortable, although I've definitely played guitars with smoother frets. The Floyd Rose is spectacular - much more responsive than the tremolos on my strats. Of course, changing strings on a Floyd appears to be much more complicated.

While I was not intending to buy another guitar, the price was WAY too good to pass up (I still can't believe what a great deal it was in the store - much less than I've seen on any website anywhere), and at long last I was able to get into the PRS line. I couldn't be happier with this ax, and just can't put it down. Back in '77 I bought a brand new Strat for about the same money - dollar for dollar without regard to inflation - as this guitar cost me, and the PRS SE Custom 24 is a far better guitar. I'll definitely be going back to Sam Ash.
