Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 40 Firewire Audio Interface:
I was in the market for an upgrade from ProTools Le/mBox2. I was pricing the Digi003 for a multi input interface. I have also been using Logic Pro 8/9, and decided to transition to Logic 9 exclusively after using some of the new features. I was considering the Digi003 anyway, but realized that for [$] I could get the FocusRite Pre's (which used to be in the old mBox). Do the math Logic 9 + Saffire Pro 40 = apprx $1050.00 USD. ProTools 8 + Digi003 apprx 1300.00 I would urge ProTools users to get Logic and learn to use it. Then you'll understand the value. I personally believe the mastering software in Logic is worth over[$] .But the true freedom is not being locked into DigiDesign interfaces. As a side note, from an engineering perspective the internal clock of Logic is superior to ProTools. You can hear the difference if you do the pepsi challenge. Also realize that DigiDesign has no intention of upgrading ProTools to 64 bit, so it is going to suffer down the road. I'd suggest starting your transition now.
