The Peavey 3120 high-gain guitar amplifier head is a versatile 3-channel amp with 120 watts of power and a trio of distinct voices capable of producing guitar tones from crisp and clean to total high-gain saturation.

That's where the 3120 fits into guitar history. Following the path of destruction left by amplifiers like the Peavey 6505, the 3120 is poised to redefine metal guitar tone with its unique character and onslaught of extreme high gain, 120 watts of power and three fully independent channels of all tube tone.

Built for players who want the most intense tone shaping possible, the 3120 is a total control freak. The amp's versatile Lead and Rhythm channels feature gain and volume controls plus an active three-band EQ, while the Clean channel offers nicely rounded tones crafted by a passive three band EQ and volume control. A global master volume governs the amount of power put out by its four EL34 or 6L6GC power-amp tubes--the amp ships with EL34s but can use either--while the gain controls on the Lead and Rhythm channels adjust the amount of 12AX7 gain saturation.

The 3120 rear panel hosts a unique Peavey custom tone control feature: a three-setting damping switch that alters speaker resonance to create tight, medium and loose response, from a precise punch for rhythmic attack to a full, widely resonant sound. Also on the rear panel is a footswitchable effects loop with dedicated send and return controls and a line out with level control.

Comments about Peavey 3120 120W Guitar Tube Amplifier Head:

I first started playing Peavey Bandits in highschool. Two years ago I bought the versatile and affordable Peavey Valve King but ended up selling it. So when I started looking at new tube amps, I started with other brands including a Blackstar HT Metal 60 combo that had no volume or sound and a used 212 Peavey Valve King combo that didn't have quite enough umph with just 26L6.

But not to worry, I took a chance on the Peavey 3120 120 watt all tube head.

First the minus. I own the V1 (black knobs) and it does not come with a boost on board or reverb. After looking at this V2 (here) I see it doesn't have either also.

The 100 watt head Valve king has both. This would have been a plus for this amp considering it was made in the USA.

The high gain tones for rythym and lead rock especially for crunch, rhythm. One of the minus is that the high gain is somewhat weak for solos.

But a delay pedal solves this instantly, giving the solos, liquidy, singing, and hotter 3D tone that takes that issue away instantly.

One can always buy a boost pedal too to add 20 or more db of clean gain.

The amp back panel sports effects loop, and a dampening switch of sorts that allows the guitarist to choose between loose, medium, and tight attack.

I'm just getting used to the amp, I've only fiddled with this.

It also comes with EL34. The amp sounds more like a hotrodded JCM 800, big warm, but with the bass eq has more of that Mike Fortin type gain tones that many metal players crave.

The fact that its made in the USA, speaks volumes about the awesomeness of this amp and Peavey.

With all these features, its a steal at this price.

The only amp that are in the price point IMO with the same features are the Peavey Valve King, 6505+ and the Laney Iron Heart IRT 60 or 120.

If your thinking about buying this amp go for it.

There are alot of good demos on You Tube that do this bad boy justice.

Its even a better amp in person.

Rock On
