With an emphasis on improved sound, natural feel and user-friendliness, Yamaha Drums introduces the DTXPRESSIII.

The DTXPRESSIII features a selection of new audio waveforms that reproduce ultra-realistic sounds, with a strong concentration on acoustic cymbal sounds. Upgraded soft rubber pads offer drummers more performance comfort, better feel, and natural rebound. Bass drum pedal not included.

Physical improvements include a silver rack system that hides chips and scratches. The DTXPRESSIII rack ships in a single box and is fully assembled; users simply fold out the support legs and cymbal arms for quick and easy setup.

Like previous models in the series, the DTXPRESSIII is loaded with more than 1,000 sounds, 128 GM voices, 80 drum kits, 127 songs, an integrated 2-track sequencer, 3-zone snare pad, Groove Check practice feature, and an easy-view backlit display. The DTXPRESSIII also allows players to play along with an external audio source in complete privacy using headphones. DTXPRESSIII includes MIDI and TO HOST connections for PC or Macintosh.

I have been surprised beyond expectations on the quality and variety of the sound this kit produces. The craftsmanship is Yamaha top grade, drums handle very well lively play conditions. The DTXpress was very easy to setup and customize, reading the manual only to clarify some obscure points with the drum controller - all users should read the whole book to get a general idea of where things are when the time comes up to look for some information. Had a minor mechanical crosstalk issue between the snare and hi-hat pads but a quick rearrangement of the whole set resolved this 'glitch'. I noted that the pads are a bit too small... well, this actually has worked for the better as the accuracy of my gyrations has improved. Bottom line: the BEST electronic drum set you can get for the asking price, doesn't get any better than that!

My band was playing a gig in NY and this was the set provided. I had played electronic sets before, Roland V-drums, and thought highly of them despite being admittedly biased towards natural, acoustic drums. I had some time to get used to the set before we played, but still had problems getting the drums to pick any rolls on the snare or 16th's/ 32nd's on the toms, particularly the floor tom which is positioned awkwardly. Rim clicks are limited, as are the sounds you can get from the cymbals. The set did sound pretty good; the latin and world beats are the strongest. If you don't want to spend more than 1000 for a set, this is not a bad choice. But if you want performance, save up and get V-drums.

"great price and great sound. only complaint is you cant control the cymbals to make it stop in the middle of a song and i find that frustrating at times, but there are ways to manage around that. anyway, this is a really really awesome drumset. i love the latin percussion and the world kit. this really helps your creative drive towards your music. i give it 5 stars for the price, and how easy it was to assemble. i have never owned my own drum set, but i found it harder to assemble my bass pedal than this whole set."

"Easy to operate. Comes pre-set up: just fold the legs out and attach the pads and cables that are labeled. High quality sampled sounds, and pliable rubber pads for an enhanced feel (not spongy). Affordable!"

This is my first electronic drum kit and I'm very satisfied. The drum sounds are like what you'd hear on a CD. I'm taking some time to get familiar with this kit and then I'll be using it live.
