Yamaha Club Custom kits feature Kapur shells, an exotic tone wood exclusive to Yamaha, first used on the flagship PHX drum set. Sam Ash Direct is featuring a classic four-piece configuration in the special kick drum size of 22” (diameter) x15” (depth), 16”x15” floor tom and the favored sizes of a 12”x8” tom and 14”x5-1/2” snare drum. Inspired by some of the great vintage drums in history, Club Custom gives vintage drum buffs the warm tone and controlled sustain they want to hear, with the advantages of modern manufacturing techniques for consistency and better projection. The revolutionary Swirl (blue or orange) finish process pays homage to some of the great finishes of yesterday by recreating the classic wrap finish look in lacquer for less restriction to shell vibration.

THE SPECS!

• Shells: Club Custom shells are 6-ply Kapur for a warm, dark tone. Kapur is a hard wood with strong low end frequencies ideal for acoustic settings, without sacrificing the ability to project through loud amplified instruments. But like any pro Yamaha drum set, they sound fabulous

when mic’d, whether live or in the studio.

• Bearing edges: All drums have a 60° bearing edge with a round profile for 3mm of shell to head contact for better transmission of head to shell vibration. This gives Club Customs a strong attack, warm tone with controlled sustain.

• The excellent 14”x5-1/2” snare drum is built to the same specs as the rest of the set, with a 6-ply, 6mm shell and a 60° round, 3mm bearing edge. It has twenty individual lugs, 1.6 mm triple flange hoops and the Absolute style snare strainer and butt.

• Tuning Lugs: Club Custom drums uses the time-proven Oak Custom lug with single-bolt mounting. This lug has minimal contact to the shell for less restriction of vibration, and fewer holes in the shell means less metal inside the drum for a natural, organic sound

• Mounts: All Club Custom toms are fitted with Yamaha’s original YESS mounting system, while floor toms use a vertically mounted leg bracket for a more traditional look. The Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System (YESS) mount on the tom is attached at only 2 points and is drilled at the “nodal” point of the drum which reduces any interference of the drum resonance from its mounting hardware, creating excellent sustain and a more full-bodied sound.
