Studio Projects CS-1000 Cardioid Recording Microphone Bundle
The Studio Projects CS-1000 cardioid microphone is suitable for all styles of recording and vocal/instrument types. The bundle includes a spider style shockmount in matching black, a cloth pop filter in black, and a quality XLR cable.
Feel free to use it in a kick drum, or other very loud sources – it’s not going to break because it’s designed to handle high SPLs up to 154dB! However, it is best to protect the mic from moisture and large temperature swings as this may affect the transducer (capsule), which may become noisy, or lose sensitivity. If this happens, put the mic in a warm dry space for ten minutes or so and the problem will subside. At best, the mic should be stored in a fairly airtight space with a bunch of silica gel packets. These precautions are a condenser mic’s best friend.
The Studio Projects CS-1000 is an externally polarized cardioid pressure gradient transducer microphone with FET impedance converter. The capsule is a 1.06” (27mm) capsule. It features four selectable pads, four high pass filters, and four low pass filters for added control in various recording applications and a clear, full response expected from a large capsule microphone design.
The Studio Projects CS-1000 Bundle starts with the CS1 microphone outfitted with a striking black finish. It is an externally polarized cardioid pressure gradient transducer microphone with JFET impedance converter. The transducer diaphragm material is 6-micron mylar with gold vapor deposition. There are three rotary switches on the body of the mic, which have five positions each:
The front switch features four selectable pads: -5dB,-10dB, -15dB and -20dB. From the rear of the mic, the left rotary switch is the “high pass” filter control. The four frequency poles are, 50Hz, 75Hz, 150Hz and 300Hz.
Looking from the rear of the mic, the rotary dial on the right side of the mic controls the selectable “low pass” filters. The first setting, labeled “15kHz” is different from the other three filters, in that it only targets a specific frequency range between 12kHz-16kHz. It is more of a fixed EQ setting used to reduce that frequency range by up to 3.5dB. This is particularly useful on sources such as violin, flute, etc. It also works well with vocals.
The other three filters are 6dB/octave. The frequency poles are, 7kHz, 5kHz and 3kHz. The output circuitry of the CS1 is active ‘impedance balanced’. Signal on pin-2 is positive.
