I got four of these as 'affordable' spare vocal mics. One day I did a test with all types of mics spaced around a snare and multi-track recorded the hits. Did the same for kick, toms, hihats, congas and voice. Of course the SM57 sounded the most like classic snare, but these UM7000's was the only close second. It fared pretty well all around the drumkit (reasonable on kick) and on congas and my voice. It's now my preferred live vocal mic too. Of course this type of mic isn't ideal for cymbals, but I highly recommend it as another option on snares, and smaller drums, as well as on guitar amps. Price doesn't mean good sound, good sound means good sound, and this sound I like, in spite of it lacking a high-end brand name.
