I really don't know that much about basses, but from what i've seen and heard, this bass is very good. This is my first bass, and its tons of fun to play. The classic look never grows old, such as some of the basses with wacked out colors and such. The one problem I have been having tho is that there is fret buzz. This may be because i havn't went in to set it up yet, like i have been reading in the other reviews, but on the other-hand it may be that way with the set up.

This bass is really a marvel for the money. It has wonderful tone and clarity. I'm aware that they may not be consistent across the board but find one of these you like and keep it. I play and record with it and it never lets me down. The frets weren't finished so great when I first bought it but I filed them myself. I'm sure it was because the wood wasn't completely dry given the price point but again this bass is 100% worth every penny and mine has paid for itself 100 times over.

I got this with discounts for [$]! Great price, unfortunately I think that's about what it's worth. I already own a Music Man Stingray 5, but I need the J-Bass sound for a recording project. The first one I got had a horribly twisted neck. The Warranty replacement has an ok neck that buzzes horribly above the 12th fret, and I'm afraid to crank too much on the truss rod as it feels like it'll split down the middle if I do. Really flimsy neck. The first body was very nice, with the seam down the middle. Sadly, the replacement body isn't as nice, and has the seam way way way off center. The tuners felt better on the first one too. Also, the electronics seemed better on the first one, as the second one has an odd taper to the volume controls making tone shaping not so easy. I should say that I have next to no experience with any real Fender Jazz basses, so maybe some of this is typical.

Forget the 'Squier' moniker, this is a fabulous bass. So easy to play (once set up properly), and such a good sound, it begs you to play smoother and faster. NOTE: Buy the warranty! The free set up included with this makes the price worth it. The guitar tech spent about 45 minutes filing frets and nut, adjusting the neck, and adjusting the bridge. Worth every penny, even if I never use it again.[...]Bottom line: My new favorite bass.

For a Novice, I get around and Jam with a lot of people and bands. Well you heard the phrase "You get what you pay for" Well this is it! MAke no mistake Im not knocking the Gear. But most Bass and Guitars in this price range are the bottom of barrell, Just the dregs. But not this axe. Yeah Like every string instrument it HAS TO BE SET UP. I don't like hearing musicians knocking a guitar becuase it needs a set up. I have purchased many guitars in my day and every one had to be set up for an individual.
This Bass is WORTH THE MONEY! Very Solid Deal! Its a shame it has to wear the name Squire.

The best bass bargain ever...Forget about the backup bass this thing sounds as nice as any vintage. I've been playing for over 30 years. Not to many guys can beat that. Forget about relics, the only bass I have found that smokes this one off of the shelf is the Victor Bailey Jazz for $1600. Don't waste your money and save it! If you know how to tweak your truss rod you will probably need to two or three minor times until the neck gets settled. If you don't know how to tweak it and can't do a quarter turn don't bother with this bass. It stays in tune for days. It sounds like the vintage old funk basses and Jaco is only a knob away. It's a shame it has to wear the Squier Logo and is made in such a anti-rights country like Indonesia. It proves that Fender knows how to build quality for less.

This axe could easily command a [$] + price tag. Sounds great. Plays great. Good feel. Excellent value. A few things. Most Fender/Squier basses come set up with high action and are not intonated. Get a good setup or do one yourself (if you know how). The stock strings are ok, but I use DR high beams, and this makes a difference. Put your favorites on there. For my new axe, I had to adjust the neck just a bit (that's normal, in some cases), I changed strings, and then did a complete set-up. It now plays like butta... In all, this a good all around axe. The only thing I can not comment on is how it will hold up under heavy use, as I haven't owned mine more than a few months. As long as you don't abuse your instruments I don't see why it won't waer well with proper care.

The smaller neck is a huge help towards feel and helps with left hand stamina. The only flaw i can think of is the awkward body shape that makes keeping it stable on a regular floor stand difficult.

I own (2) Yamaha's, (1) Ibanez, & (1) Traben basses, but this Squier version of the Fender Vintage 70's Jazz Bass is the one that I haven't been able to put down since I purchased it several weeks ago! You know how a good pair of shoes just "feels right"? Well this bass is that pair of shoes! This bass plays as good as it looks. And by FAR - has the fastest neck of all of my gear. Never knew how much a finished neck slowed one down until I began playing on this one. The only negative is that the pick ups are not the most powerful in the world. I may swap them out or look into installing a pre-amp. Other than that - I am really impressed with this Squier product! This bass is well worth the price!
