I bought this guitar as a gift for my 9 year old daughter a year ago when she was starting lessons. It has survived a year in my house with no problems.
It's such a good looking guitar that I find myself picking it up to play it all the time. I am also impressed with the quality of the tuning machines. They are still nice and "tight" and it stays in tune no matter what kind of crazy string bending the kids and I put it through. You can't ask for much more than that. I think it is the perfect beginner's guitar. I'm now tempted to see if the Squire Telecasters are as well built. I'd love to get a Tele in the same cherry sunburst color.

Great Classic tone
Nice C shaped neck
Well Built Instrument
Cons
Stock tone capacitor

Mine is a Metallic Black model with a Maple Fretboard and I absolutely love it. The only fault I could find with it ,was the stock capacitor on the rear tone pot, which gave it a very trebly tone. I replaced that with a Fender Ceramic cap and right away the difference in tone was much better. These are very underrated guitars once they're setup and intonated properly. I use 10's on mine and it can handle anything from Blues to full blown Metal. I'm a player with over 37 years of experience who also owns a 2006 USA made, 60th anniversary special edition commemorative Strat and IMO, this guitar sounds just as good as that one. A lot of people tend to knock Squiers but these are usually players who only know nothing but 3 things, Line 6,Ibanez,and not a [*] thing about good tone. I highly reccommend this guitar to anyone who is on a low budget, looking for a backup, or is just a beginner. trust me, you won't regret it.

The guitar played amazingly right out of the box with minor tuning adjustments. I own a Fender, and the Squier Standard hangs right there with it. I own an Affinity Squier so I figured the Standard HAD to be even better so I took the chance. I was amazed at how great this thing plays and sounds. The cherry-burst finish looks great; nice touch with the mint pickguard...it really compliments the colors. Very, very impressive guitar.

I got this Guitar for my Birthday along with a Fender Frontman 15R. I am still just learning Guitar but I love the way this guitar feels and sounds. I looked at a lot of guitars before buying this one, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I sounds awesome through the Fender Amp. Great value for the price

I was a bit skeptical at first when considering purchasing a Strat at [$], however, while performing guitar/bass setup for local stores over the last 25 years was always amazed at the high quality of the imported Squire guitars. I'm primarily a bassist but needed a Strat style guitar for my home recording projects, and didn't want to spend the cash required to purchase an American version. The instrument arrived the other day and I'll have to say that I'm very impressed. The overall construction is flawless and the quality of hardware and finish work is amazing. Even the fret dressing and leveling work is excellent. The instrument arrived setup almost perfect, with minimal tweaking for string action and intonation (which is common for even American made instruments due to shipping). It setup with very low action with absolutely no dead spots (or excessive string buzz) on the neck. The pickups produce nice quite tone and record very well. I'm sure that an upgrade to a nice set of Duncan's would improve the overall sound but at this point I'm inclined to leave it alone.Highly recommended for beginner and semi-pro.
