The Shure KSM32 Cardioid Condenser Microphone is just such an instrument. The KSM32SL features Class A, transformerless preamplifier circuitry which improves linearity across the full frequency range. It also provides the exceptionally low shelf noise and increased dynamic range necessary for highly critical studio recording. The embossed, ultra-thin, high compliance diaphram provides the excellent transient response necessary to faithfully reproduce any sound. An integrated three-stage pop protection grille guards against wind and breath noise and the elastic shock mount greatly reduces external vibrations.

I was given the KSM32 from Shure after my KSM27 had so many problems. WOW, what an upgrade! It sounds amazing. However, even with the pop filter, it still picked up some P's. Standing more than a foot away stole the crispness. I played around with it and found that if I tilted it a little less than 45 degrees forward, took off the pop filter, and sang directly into it, (and changed the angle setting option on the mic), I acquired a much clearer, crisper recording with no P's or S's.

I also used the KSM32 on my acoustic guitars, harmonica, and mandolin (and all vocals, lead and back up). best mic I've used under a grand.

Cons: Very Heavy. Even with a hundred dollar professional Mic Stand made for recording, I had to play with it so it wouldn't tip over. It fell over a few times, but the mic survived the fall.
