With its on-board iPod dock and USB interface, StudioDock lets you listen, sync and take your music with you. StudioDock will even charge your iPod while its docked. And because you use USB to send your music digitally, you get extremely high-quality audio from one convenient, incredible sounding set of desktop monitors.

StudioDock 3i offers the same professional monitoring performance found in all Samson studio monitors, thanks to our use of custom-designed components and a critically damped, vented cabinet design. In addition to the functional aspects of its design, StudioDock is an elegant complement to any desktop, home studio or mixing room.

StudioDock 3i features a 3.25-inch, copolymer woofer with a Santoprene surround for high excursion and internal damping, providing uncolored music reproduction. With its high performance, magnetically shielded woofer, the 3i also employs a precision made 25mm silk dome tweeter with a neodymium motor structure for smooth, extended high frequency response that reduces listener fatigue.

In addition, these innovative monitors are powered by an internal 30w watt (2 x 15) high performance, low distortion power amplifier with custom equalization. The result is a system that delivers unusually smooth and accurate frequency response with precise stereo imaging. StudioDock 3i also provides a front panel 3.5mm stereo input jack to plug in an additional sound source, as well as a headphone output jack to mute the speakers and listen with headphones and volume control.

I bought a bass guitar and these speakers came with it, so I plugged them into my laptop and was instantly blown away, literaly. I turned the volume down to a low level on the speakers and then played a song, expecting the sound to be quieter, the sound that came out was REALLY loud and gave me a heart attack. I had to turn the volume on my computer down to 2 out of 100 and then it was at a reasonable level. So next I stick my ipod onto the top expecting the volume issue to have been solved, well my ipod automatically started playing and I had the volume on it on full, and I was given a second heart attack. Once I figured out all the volumen issues, the speakers sounded pretty nice and I really do like them. These speakers are intended to be the only set of speakers that your devices will be plugged into, because you really have to change the volume settings a lot before you turn on whatever you're plugging in. If that's what you want from these speakers then no problem, but whenever I forget to kill the volume on my ipod before plugging it in I get the nasty surprise of a sonic boom coming at me. Basically, I like these speakers very much, except for the volume controls.

These little things get pretty loud, but there is a bit of "mud" down there in the 150 Hz range. Aside from that, they are pretty useful for comparing mixes and such. It is important to note that the sound of these things REALLY changes on and off-axis, seemingly more so than your average nearfield.
