Samson SX1800 Power Amplifier

The Samson SX Series stereo power amplifiers have been designed to provide robust, clean output with low distortion and wide dynamic range, along with the dependability demanded by the most professional audio engineers and installers.

The Samson SX1800 Power Amplifier has a power rating of 400W per side @ 8 ohms, 600W per side @ 4 ohms and 1200W bridged mono @ 8 ohms. This dual-space power amp features 5-way binding post and Speakon speaker outputs; XLR and TRS input connections, Signal, Peak, and Protection circuit indicators and Samson’s dual variable-speed fan cooling system.

Highlights:

Clean, crisp sound - Impressive audio specifications such as 0.04% THD, dynamic range of 105 dB, crosstalk of 80 dB, and frequency response of 10 Hz to 55 kHz guarantee ultra-clean sound quality.

Independent input level controls for each channel allow precision adjustments.

LED signal indicators for each channel continuously display power output levels and allow you to correct for overloading (clipping) conditions.

Unique stable bipolar circuit design that continuously keeps DC output during idling at or near zero volts (thus keeping idle speakers at their zero point). This serves to minimize heat overload problems by effectively preventing the SX Series from applying power when unnecessary. Forced air cooling via two temperature-sensitive, variable speed fans provides reliable performance without thermal and overheating problems.

Protection relay circuitry (with dedicated LEDs for each channel) that guards against overheating or faulty wiring conditions and also prevents “thumps” when powering on or off. This means that you can use the SX Series with a single power strip into which a mixer or other audio devices are connected, without danger of damage to connected speakers.

Combination input connectors for each channel accommodate both balanced XLR or balanced 1/4-inch TRS plugs.

Output connections are made via 5-way binding posts and Speakon™ connectors.

Toroidal transformer power supply for high current and low profile.

User-resettable circuit breaker for fast, easy startup following a power supply overload.

The SX Series can be mounted in any standard 19" rack (taking just two rack spaces), making it easy to integrate the amp into any fixed or traveling PA rig.

Rugged construction (an all-steel chassis with a cool gray finish and a lightweight anodized aluminum heat sink) makes the SX Series eminently roadworthy.

I have used the SX1800 for over 10 years. The first Amp I bought has over 1000 hours and always performes flawlessly. I never had an issue. I have since bought 2 more. 1 is still brand new in the box as it is a backup. like all electronics you must use the equipment for what it was designed and it will work to perfection. highly recommend this amp for mobile DJ's

Returned the first one for warranty repair. It didn't work after using it for less than 3 hours. 6 weeks later I got it back. It still didn't work. I took it into a Sam Ash store where they tested it and it didn't work. they gave me another one. Used it once, it worked great. The next time I used it (a year later) It fried just by turning it on. Now, of course, it's out of warranty. I bought this based on reviews I read here. Everything in my rack, wiring, mixer, patch cords,
signal processors, amp, etc. was designed in store
by Sam Ash audio pros and set up to work flawlessly. It hasn't! I rarely use this system and probably have gotten less than 6 hours use out of it over more than 3 years. I wonder if Sam Ash will take care of me or lose a customer of over 10 years?

I love this amp! It not only has enough power to drive my 18" B-52 220S Subwoofer they way it was intended, but has room to spare. It never, ever gets hot. The power cut-off is clean and does not "Thump" your speakers when switched off. I took a peek inside and the toroidal transformer is MASSIVE. This amp was built to last and best yet, it made in America. How could you go wrong?

huge power to cost ratio, but I have found a major design flaw in this amp. I've had the amp in for repairs twice because the mounting screws for the front handles are screwed in from the inside;over time,the screws vibrate loose and fall into the amplifier's electronics shorting out the amp.this problem has cost me $100.00 for the loss of a gig and $499.00 for the cost of a new amplifier,as samson doesn't provide "loaner" amplifiers

A swell power amp. The fans keep it running very cool.
Both knobs @ max for the best tone, but sounds great @ any power level. I have an SX1200 and SX1800, both perform flawlessly.

I use it for DJing It Seems to work ok except for the loud Hissing when there is no input sound which is very irritating to everyone around. I have used Peavey 2600 and Radio Shack 250 and never had any hissing.
