An all-new collection of sounds has been created for the HandSonic 10; approximately 400 high-quality instruments are onboard. All of the percussive essentials have been included — congas, bongos, tabla, djembe, cajon, etc. — as well as melodic percussion, drum kit, special effects, and more.

Sensitive Surface

Whether you’re laying down the most delicate finger rolls or the sharpest slaps, the HandSonic 10’s playing surface can handle anything you give it. The comfortable round surface is divided into ten individual pads with pressure- and positional-sensitivity. The popular D Beam is also included for dramatic triggering. Strike a virtual gong with your head, throw your fist into a crash cymbal, wiggle your fingers over a perfect chime gliss — you get the picture.

Rhythm Coach

Flaunting your chops on the stage or in the studio is the fun part, but behind the scenes it’s practice that gets you the gigs in the first place. For this purpose, Roland has equipped the HandSonic 10 with a Rhythm Coach. This virtual trainer provides exercises to improve your timing, consistency, and endurance.

I/O Options

While the HandSonic 10 is primarily a hand percussion instrument, users can add a Roland kick pad (optional) via the external trigger input, or add a Roland V-Pad. The input is dual-trigger compatible for double the triggering power via an optional PCS-31L Y-cable.

My buddy has one and he brought it out to jam the other day. it's amazing how far we've come on this kind of technology -- the weight and pressure of your handstrike to change the sound.

It even has this cool 'eye' you activate by passing you hand over it. It can be a cymbol hit, which sounds great.

There are other sound settings to - the conga one als sounded really cool.

"I just spent a night and a day with my new handsonic and I must say I'm quite impressed with how well it simulates hand drums from off center hits to rims slaps. I can't see how Roland could make there positional sensors any better. This thing feels and sounds WAY more like a hand drum then I thought it would!! I could mute or push on one of the pads to simulate tension on the drum to change the pitch .. COOL!!! This is after all why I bought the unit but what I didn't realize is the array of ""extras"" that comes with this and when I say tons I mean tons !!For starters there is tons of background tracks that you can groove along with and there's a couch section that will give you different rhythms to practice out.. I'm admittedly not the best percussionist so I found that I used this section of the coach more then any of the others it nice to get some fresh ideas to try out. Plus you can take all the sounds and set up whatever ""kits"" you like with what ever combination you want. There is a ""beam"" in the front of the unit that you can break to trigger sounds OR use as a tool to bend notes or affect effects (very cool).. I read about the beam and though it would have loads of problems but amazingly it had none that I could find from a dark room to a bright sunny day this thing just works! The set fits a standard drum stand so you don't need to buy the Roland one I'm not sure how much it is but I bet it isn't too cheap. The samples sound really good, I really like the djembe (probably the wrong spelling) .the screen can been seen in the daylight and is really bright at night I like the red as well. As for the list of effects that can be applied to the samples basically think of ANY guitar effect pedal and it's in there from flangers to phasers to reverb to delays the list is huge. The handsonic is super portable I was using it on a long car ride earlier today and it fits great on your lap( no it's not battery operated just so you know) All in all I like the thing If I had it to do all over again I would buy it again but I think it should be a little cheaper personally. I can't comment on how rugged it is but from what I've seen so far it looks like it can take the beating I'm giving it. Plus I have Roland gear that I LOVE. I haven't had any problems with any of my other Roland stuff so I trust the company. Now on to the problems I found with this unit. First off there is no recording or looping ability grant it I know I could go out an buy a separate unit to do that but I feel it should be built in! Plus to rub it in your face they have ""demo"" songs that they say show off the units abilities.. well if they got someone to do that in one sitting by himself then I have to meet this guy/gal and shake his hand all 8 of them ;o). It you want to play some really complicated stuff then you are going to have to grow a couple arms sure there are inputs for pedals but I'm a cheap bugger so I don't think I will shell out the cash (just yet ). Also I CAN""T get to custom set up functions and kits quick enough. you can set up quick keys to get to only 5 of the 86 kits. This I feel is where they dropped the ball, although they give you LOTS of options like using the pedals as triggers or using one of the pads themselves as a trigger, I guess there are work around but I don't think it's as good as it could be. While I'm on this complaint I shout point out that there is a jog dial that is pretty quick so I guess it could have been worse. It just feels like the menu system could have been so much better. Then again this is a Roland so I guess I'm supposed to hate the menu system like all my other Roland gear. Getting to the effects can also be a bit of a pain too but once again maybe I'll get a little faster at it as time passes.. I love the beam but I wish I could move it or redirect it .. I found myself trying to trigger the thing with my head since my hands were busy this amused my Girlfriend but I must admit I didn't think buying an electronic drum would turn me into a head banger ;o) . Overall it's a good unit they have made a lot of progress over their older hand drum units. I love mine; sure there is a couple of complaints but nothing too serious that don�t have a work around. I give this thing 2 hand up....... 2 very beaten and red hands up ;o) "
