Comments about RODE VideoMic Directional Camcorder Microphone:

If you're considering buying this microphone, it's worth it. I use it all of the time, especially in rough conditions (I film skateboarding).

The microphone is incredibly durable, it's been dropped, hit, sat on, etc., and still works great. I often have to change the dB settings, the fragile switch still works perfectly, no problems.

When it comes to sound quality it sounds great. However, I do think at times it can sound a bit muffled, some simple EQ can fix that. There isn't too much noise on the 0dB setting, almost none on -10dB ... never had to use -20dB.

Furthermore, the Video Mic picks up the low end of the frequency spectrum very well. Good mids, decent highs.

Some things I don't like, is the size of the microphone, it'd be nice if it was more compact. One good thing would be a larger switch for the dB settings and perhaps a few more dB settings.

Great microphone for the money, it's worth it.

This is without question the WORST mic I have ever used! The sound quality is on par with mics that run for around $5.00. It sounds as if you are recording in a garbage can. $[...]! To claim it is professional quality is flat-out false advertising. This is your caveat.
