Traditionally the export series consisted of Poplar shells; Pearl has revamped these drums by making the shells a mix of Poplar and Asian Mahogany. Poplar/Mahogany shells are not a new idea; many vintage drums are made up from this shell type. Mahogany is known for being warm, fat, and lush with a dark overall fundamental while poplar is known for it’s soft, mellow sound and warm spread. This gives these kits a classic sound that’s still as unique as your playing. This is all possible due to Pearl’s “Super Shell Technology”. This is Pearl’s proprietary shell making process that utilizes extreme heat and pressure help create the perfect shell. In fact, this process was so effective that Pearl offers a limited life time warranty on all of their drums.
Pearl also did quite a number on the hardware as well. The exports feature triple-flange hoops, matching wood bass drum hoops, as well as the all new lug design, and opti-loc mounting system. The new lugs are inspired by the classic look of the original export lugs while bringing something altogether new to the table. These smaller, lower mass lugs create less tension on the surface of the shell. This allows the drums to resonate more freely, creating a truer, more open sound. The opti-loc system makes no contact what so ever with the actual shell. This, much like the new lug design, allows the drum to breathe and be more resonant.
This kit is a fusion configuration. Fusion sizes are typically smaller than most other kits. These smaller sizes help make the drums a little punchier with a sharper definition and increased attack. The drum sizes are (depth x diameter)
