Tom sizes are 10", 12" and 14" and their 5" deep, single headed design allows them to neatly stack for compact travel while producing a great tone for live performance. Rhythm Traveler's wood shell snare drum is 13"x5" and produces a very warm, full bodied snare tone with excellent crack.

This was my first drum kit, and I have to say its pretty good for the price. Of course you're not going to get an extremely good drum kit, but for the price I doubt you'll find something better. The kit is overall pretty good. The snare drum isn't all that great, but with proper tuning and some moongel you can get a pretty good sound out of it.
The biggest con I see in this kit is the cymbals. The Hi-hat is pretty bad (not awful) but you can deal with it long enough to have enough money to upgrade it. The crash/ride cymbal is the worst cymbal I've ever heard. It sounds bad as both a ride and a crash. I would suggest getting a better cymbal right away.
Overall the kit was pretty good with the exception of the cymbals. If you are beginning to learn how to play you can't go wrong with this kit. If you are looking for an extremely great sounding kit, this isn't the kit for you. But if you are looking for a kit to start off with, this would be the one. I was satisfied with my purchase of this kit.

I'm a pro keyboardist in bands who works very closely with a drummer. (I'm a novice on drums, owning the Rhythm Traveler and an electronic kit.)I bought my kit to save time, space and money. (My drummer's set's like an old dog- faithful, but it just doesn't hunt anymore; maintainence/upgrades make his kit more of a backup/extension unit.)
With great heads and a better snare, the Rhythm Traveler will pass muster for most music. (sORRY, HEADBANGERS: YOU'LL NEVER GET THAT THUNDERING SOUND OUT OF THESE CAPGUNS. gET DW OR SONOR, OR WHATEVER YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS use!)
I'm saving up for a second kit to form a double bass kit with two floor toms, four mounted toms, two snares (both without the snare's band, timbali-like) to go with his excellent pearl snare and 3-pc. roto toms. we're picky about heads and tone, especially dampening ring and boom, dead, lifeless sound, etc. We're working up Drumzilla - a Frankenkit comprised of his old refurbished kit, two Rhythm Travelers, his electronic kit,my electronic kit, a drum machine/sampler, a controller w/ drumpads, a rack sampler, and several MIDI synths, combined with an analog synth sync'ed/triggered by a control-voltage-to-MIDI interface. Add a few percussion stands, and we may have the premier "madman's" kit in the Washington,DC area, available for session rental (on premises only- tthe kit's not robust enough to travel, and would take a day to set up, and several hours to carefully break down!)
Strongly consider TRAPS brand kits, which can go acoustic, trtiggered, or electronic. Better in many respects, they're a couple hundred bucks more- and well worth the price!

As a voice and guitar teacher, I bought this kit to teach myself to play. It is perfect in my house that was already filled with instruments because of it's compact size.
I'm not happy with the cymbals, and the drum heads are bottom of the road, but overall this kit is decent.
It is a great practice kit, and when I'm ready to play live I know that I'll get a decent sound from it.

This kit is perfect for my purposes and basic requirements; I live in a New York City studio apartment so it's essential that it fit into my space. Although my neighbors might want me too -- I have decided to forgo the muffle drum heads. I am not sure if this will be good enough for gigging, but it's perfect for those who wish to experiment and learn.

Honestly the only thing about this kit that was iffy were the cymbals, but you can't beat it for the price.

i liked the idea that is small, and cheap, but you have to spend more money to get better quality, i had to change all the heads, buy new cymbals, because the hi hat sounds horrible, and the same with the crash. i had a lot of trouble tunning the snare too

I read the above review of this kit and have to LOL. Maybe spam or the guy didn't know what he was buying. I have owned this kit for over 3 years and think it's great. This drum set is very well made. Pearl makes some of the best drums out there. It's a great little practice kit that is almost silent for home use, and it packs up extremely small so I can take it to the city to my gigs and get a surprisingly good sound out of it. It's perfect for me. You want big drums, buy them. If you want a small practice kit that you can also play live, there is nothing else out there that does it this good for this money.

I purchaced the RT kit for 2 simple reasons:

1.) Fast and cost effective kit to take on the road, without taking up additional space.

2.) A practice kit.

I did get what I paid for and with additional upgrades (where applicable) the RT kit can sound decent. The hardware is great and the build quality is what I would expect out of an adverage kit. It works but is nothing special. I like the fact that it does have mesh heads for silent practice sessions and can be a nice hybrid acoustic/electronic kit, with the right add-ons.

I didn't like the fact it has only 5 lugs on all toms. This makes it very difficult to replace rims or add suspension mounts.

The only grey areas with the RT is the single headed toms and the starter brass cymbals. The projection is nice but lacks tone and the cymbals are nice for an entry level drummer but should be replaced asap.

Over-all I'd say it's not a DW or the next amazing sounding kit but it will serve its purpose and provide a great silent practice kit, is very cost effective and can be used on even the smallest of stages and still give a real drum sound.

I run mine in a 4pc configuration and all drums fit inside each other in my custom 12x22 case. This saves room in the trailer for additional much needed gear. I couldn't be happier with that fact alone.

I use my Rhythm Traveler primarily for practice with the mesh heads and plastic cymbals that come with it. It works perfect and is super compact. Then, when I play small jazz gigs or on stages where space is limited (isn't that everywhere?), I throw on the real heads and this thing kills! The bass drum and snare drum sound great, and I bring my own cymbals with Pearl's flat base stands so i'm in and out fast with lightweight gear.

Awesome.
