Launch Window
The Finale Launch Window saves you time by putting everything at your fingertips. Open files, access the Setup Wizard, create SmartMusic Accompaniments, watch videos, access the Installation and Tutuorial Guide and more. Never before has Finale been so easy to learn. Besides a more intuitive interface, a broader range of short onscreen videos step you through most common functions of Finale. Easily access the videos from the Launch Window.
Setting up your score
What instruments or voices do you want? You can even select from pre-defined ensembles or create your own. What key? Time signature? Music font? Tempo? Finale will set up your score, complete with staves in correct order, tempo marking, staff groupings, et al. Nowhere else will you get a setup so complete or so quickly. When creating a full score, a worksheet, quiz or even a dissertation, the easiest way to start is simply to open a pre-created template from the launch window. Over 60 to choose from including SATB, Kodály, solfege and more.

Finale NotePad - This FREE downloadable notation software can be used to create up to 8 staves, but can also open a Finale file from the same version. You can even read the most complex Finale family file, edit notes, or type in text.
Create an assignment or test in Finale, have the students take the test with Finale NotePad. You can also share your music with anyone on the Internet. When they download Finale NotePad, all of your friends, relatives, colleagues, or publishers can play back, print, and even edit the music.

Backwards Compatibility
Finale can import and export Music XML files—right from the File menu and the launch window. MusicXML Export allows you to save your music so it can be imported by anyone with Finale for Windows 2003-2006 or Finale for Macintosh 2006.
Want more options? Recordare.com offers plug-ins (sold separately) that allow you to open these files into Finale for OS X (back to 2004), and Finale for Windows (back to Finale 2000). You can even read MusicXML files created in other music notation programs.
