KRK Rokit 5 Generation 2 5" Active Monitor (Single)
The KRK Rokit 5 G2 studio monitor offers outstanding value in a self-powered studio monitor. Due to their extremely reasonable price point we were tempted to label them “budget” monitors, but that just wouldn’t be fair. Once you start mixing through these darlings, the term “budget” is the last thing that will come to mind.
Whether the KRK Rokit 5 G2 sounds good or not is really very subjective; what you’ll actually come away with is how true and honest their playback is, revealing all the subtleties and nuances of your mix in a delightfully revealing fashion. These are the professional quality tools you’ll need to make all the right decisions for perfect mix translation every time!
All of the KRK custom-designed components are intended to bring you a first class quality-monitoring experience, starting with the shape of the enclosure. The Generation 2 Rokit series eliminates the issue of phase distortion associated with some other monitors with radically engineered curved surfaces, so diffraction is virtually eliminated. This provides better sound in a wider area, a sweeter “sweet-spot” if you will (and you will!). Their unique front-firing ports help in delivering honest, true bass response, which can often get blurred in smaller mixing environments due to rear ports close up against a wall producing port turbulence. That is not an issue with the Rokit 5 G2.
Built-in bi-amplification with an accurate crossover (30 watts LF/15 watts HF) distributes the perfectly matched wattage to drive the 5” woofer and 1” tweeter to their fullest resolution. They can get pretty loud with an SPL reading of 106 dB, pretty punchy for these monitors with a small footprint. There is no shortage of useful connections around the back. There are XLR, RCA, and ¼” inputs so you’re covered no matter which connectors you require.
With true honest sound reproduction and striking good looks, the KRK Rokit 5 G2 aims to please!
