I bought one of the very first Jeff Beck models to hit the stores in 1991. Only death will part me from it. I've been through over 100 guitars since the early sixties and this one was the first to do all of the things I needed a guitar to do. I figured if it could handle what Jeff dishes out, it might work for me too.

I needed a guitar that would be able to take fairly constant tremelo bar use and stay in tune, and this one does it flawlessly. I can drop double stop chords a whole step and hold them there in tune and bring them right back up to pitch. I can't say enough about the Schaller locking tuners, everyone is using them now. I can't tolerate locking systems on guitars and they don't sound the same anyway. With these tuners, you avoid all of that rubbish.

I also needed a wide variety of tones, as well as a choice between single and double coil pick ups, and my original Beck model has that option. I think they've cut that option out of the newer ones. They've also stopped using the original neck design, which for me is essential. This guitar is as solid as a rock, making for incredible response and tremendous sustain capabilities.

They've also stopped using the Fender Lace Sensor pick ups, which is funny. I've read so many reviews where young guitar players say they hate the sound of them, but I get loads of young guitar slingers that come to see me play and they flip over the sound of my guitar! I wouldn't change anything about my Jeff Beck artist model. Everything on it is completely stock. It's the perfect Stratocaster. It's not that nothing else will come close, it's that nothing else will work period.

This guitar will take a real pounding. I've had mine for 15 years and guys come up to me all the time asking if it's a new guitar. I rarely ever break a string with mine, just changing them when they lose their sound, or are played out from tremelo bar use.

I would go to any length to catch someone if they stole it from me. If anything ever did happen to it, I would search out another '91 model. Jeff seems to get along fine with his newer models, so they must be great or he'd be playing something else. I favor the original design. It's simply the ultimate Stratocaster for me.
