I bought this ax based on feel and cosmetics. I was attracted to the Ocean Blue model, and found one used but in near mint condition. When I started playing live, I soon realized that the factory pups were barely acceptable. I acquired a pair of Seymour Duncan Pups, and now it is a totally different instrument. It now possesses tonal qualities of a 6000 series Gretsch, and it also can deliver a simulated single coil Strat (position 2)sound as well.Like any beautiful woman, it can require some "tuning" maintenance, but I think you may also experience that with many guitars that have vibrato tailpieces. In a nutshell, I can now play rock/jazz/blues/country with this ax. Granted, it may not have the buttery feel of a 2/3K guitar, but it is extremely serviceable, and the cost to value ratio now makes this a most unique and valued instrument. I do believe that the "whammy" bar is private labled by Bigsby, and it delivers great tone, if you like that type of deal.
My recommendation to anyone who is thinking Gretsch would be to try to do a "feel" comparison, knowing that the addition of SD Pups to this model will really give you the versatile tone that you are probably looking for.

I ordered it from factory as soon as i played the demo at the Music store. It was a very, very long wait! But well worth it!!Best [$] I ever spent! The harmonics and tone on this baby are absolutely the finest. It plays and sounds like a much more expensive guitar. Blues seem to beg to be played, or Jazz. I can also hookup a couple of Deltalabs Rock peddles and rock with the best of em.Luv it.

This is an economical jazz blues guitar. I needed to change the strings and spent a bundle on a smooth set $60. The sound now is brilliant and very quiet on the slide.

It is my favourite guitar now and gets played every day as either an electric or even as an acoustic player. Not as loud as my dreadnaught but way more comfortable to hold and jam on.

The sound as a jazz player is just fab.
