I was amazed when I first picked one of this guitars in my local store so when I had the money I just bougt it, I wanted a hollow body for jazz and blues, but I never spected that this cheap guitar would match the sound of my gibson SG but when I took them both to a concert in a big theatre the Ibanez sounded as good as the much more expensive gibson, and that day I think I use more the Ibanez, so my advice is get it if you can.

this is an superb instrumet you can go easy from blues to jazz runs and classic rock its the icing on the cake...smooth neck , great round sound unplugged and can even take a heavy distorted sound with no problem, overall a great guitar worthy the price yet the finish is a little bit delicate so you have to be nice to her...

In my opinion, even though I'd be tempted by spend another $3-4K to step up to hand-carved archtops, I can't see what I'd really gain. With an amp that permits a wide range of tone, and with a fine set of strings there's really no need.

Great looking guitar that sounds great with or without an amp. I'm just a beginning player, but I was fully satisfied with the quality of construction and the great sound of this instrument before even hooking up to an amp. Handy when practicing. When hooked up to an amp, it sounds fine too. Looks great and plays well with good action and very little fret noise when I'm playing it correctly. :) I bought it for Jazz, Blues & Rock and it should work well for every genre. The only criticism I've read from others is the pickups aren't the quality of the +$1,500 models, but that's understandable for the price. Besides, I'll likely never tell the difference.

"The quality to price ratio is the reason I give this axe a ""perfect"" 5. The overall quality in this price range for a new instrument is incredible. I'm real happy with it. I read the reviews of the model with the tremelo, and was amused to see that the first reviewer is a fan of Ted Nugent. Giving away my age here, I saw Ted back in 1976 or 77, and I won second place in state UIL (Texas) for 2AA high school for a column I wrote (for the schools newspaper). Well enough of that. Anyway, I saw this thing on Musicians Friend and ordered one knowing full well I could send it back for a refund. [...]this guitar ain't going back. I'm primarily a keyboard player, I have been playing since age 7, and professionally (meaning that's how I make a living) since graduating from high school. I recently purchased an Adamas W597 for studio and stage, and have played guitar more off then on for nearly as long as I've been playing the piano. Other stringed instruments I own are an ESP Strat (mid eighties) and a 72 Fender Precision. Okay, I'm actually going to tell you about the guitar now, but hopefully some background info will add a little validity to my evaluation. The finish (brown sunburst) is flawless. Bandmates complimented what a beautiful guitar it is. Unlike the fellows who wrote the reviews on its tremoled sister, mine benefited (and needed) from some adjustment to the neck and action. No biggie if you ain't afraid of screwing up a cheap guitar, and I ain't. I finally settled for a slight buzz on the G string (which only happens when the first fret is played) in return for a low action. It's the best compromise I could achieve, and if you aren't into compromise I suggest you look at something quite a bit more expensive,like more then double I imagine. I like the sound of this guitar. It sounds like the big fat hollow bastard it is. The pickups are okay I guess, but I'm no expert on that. I find the neck pickup gives good authentic honkiness, while for distoted power cords the bridge pickup is your man. The middle position (both pickups active) I haven't found much use for yet, but then I've only had it less then a week. The feel of this guitar overall is good. I'm not sure if this is a grip just yet, but the pickup switch is out of sight when playing, and quick switches between the positions is a bit awkward to me. I suspect though that with a little more time I won't mind it so much. Probably just something I'll get used to. Tuning remained solid during the gig I played it at, even though temperatures dropped considerably as it was a canvass enclosed venue and the current blue norther was making inroads here. Inside my house it remains in tune as well as one might expect. I'm going to glue a little piece of foam under the pickguard to stabilize it. because it is not supported all the way around, and it moves up and down and if you apply pressure it taps the body. Again, no biggie. If you've visited the Ibanez web site, you'd find that the parent company is Japanese (Hoshino) and dates back to 1908 from humble beginnings. Apparently they sold a few Ibanez guitars to the U.S. back in the early sixties, (apparently little spanish classicals) and gained a reputation in the 70's by producing good cheap copies of American guitars, for which they were eventually successfully sued. Mine is made in China, that great vastion of human resource. I heard from a microphone manurfactuer (ADK) that the Chinese are terrific metalurgists, producing for instance, gold spluttered diaphrahms for most of the cheap, large diaphrham condenser mics available. I guess I would add that they aren't bad luthiers either. "
