Hofner HCT500/1 CT Series Violin Bass Guitar with Hardshell Case

The Contemporary Series version of the famous Beatle Bass by Hofner is the upgrade to the Icon series. The CT Series is an almost exact copy in the true sense of the word, it's hard tell it apart, side by side, with the German made instrument. Features include a sustain block inside the body that makes for a modern deep resonating bass with superior sustain. Comes with the original Höfner (German made) 'Staple-Top' pick-ups, Zero Fret, Binding, Parchment tinted pickguard and control panel.

The Hofner is great if you can stand the constant breakage. The strings always slip off the bridge and the pickguard always falls out of the neck. Besides that though, it has a nice warm feel ideal for playing softer rock/pop. That's probably why Sir Paul choose this because that's what the Beatles usually play. He didn't use this model, but I think the others sound alike. I use this and a Peavey T-40 in my school band. We play mostly jazz. It's really fun to bass solo with the bass boost on. This won't last long, but it's a sounding with a really good neck feel.

I just got my lefty contemporary. I had never seen a lefty contemp anywhere, but on a whim I asked my Sam Ash Salesman if it was available, he looked it up and said yes, I ordered it. I also own a EPi Viola, but the Hofner has a bass boost that can shake the house! It is really light and comfortable to play. With this bass you will never have top worry again about getting drowned out by the band!
I recomend restringing with Flatwounds for that sixties sound.

Best of both worlds? Well, what i mean by that is that you get a beautifully made Hofner "Beatle Bass" without really having to pay alot. This model is an improvement over the Icon B series. The Bass Boost provides some extra "umph" when needed. And this model really provises a really nice balanace of tone and bass and some very effective options to adjust those sounds.

Growing up in the 60’s I listened to The Beatles religiously. I subsequently followed their solo careers along with other artist. In my youth I learned to play a cheap low end bass that died a slow death. Recently, I was given a Hofner CT Series Bass and I couldn’t be happier. I own an Ibanez semi-hollow guitar, and a Fender Eric Clapton signature Stratocaster, so I know high quality instruments. The addition of a Hofner Beatle Bass completes my wildest dreams. Hofner seams to have corrected the problems encountered with the Icon line, while producing an affordable high quality bass. Its light weight still amazes me. For the price, I expected some buzzing of the strings. To my surprise, there’s none. The tuning keys hold the strings true, the sound is vintage Beatles, and the look is pure McCartney. Whether I’m playing Beatles tunes or Pearl Jam, the sound is perfect. I highly recommend this bass guitar!
