Groove Percussion BDSW1350MA 5x13 Maple Shell Snare Drum
The BD-SW1350 is made of select maple and offers a warmer tone than a metal shell snare drum. You get great feel and response in a value priced drum. This thing is a good value and it really sounds clean and crisp. unfortunatly after about 2 months 2 of the the lugs pulled out [...] and the had no problem replacing them. I'v had it for about a year and a half and the lugs just pulled out again. So if your on a budget like most of us it's a pretty good value but if you can spend a little more I would move up.

Bought this drum for the price more than anything, and have stopped using it as my side snare, but am now using it as my 'go-to' snare, especially in smaller venues. I've got a Remo Emperor X batter on it, and the maple shell sounds so sweet.

"This snare drum is awesome! As others have said, you'll want to replace the batter head with your head of choice, but this drum is brilliant! It looks beautiful and the strainer is very easy to use and adjust. I was also impressed with the thicker batter hoops (2.3mm vs the standard 1.6mm) that made the drum easier to tune and made rim shots more pronounced. It sounds wonderful and would make a great all-purpose snare. Plus, with the beautiful natural gloss finish, it will look nice with any color kit! A great snare, don't pass this one up! Incidentally, this snare is an exact match finish wise to the GP 4 piece travel kit and also to the larger GP 5 piece kit with the 24"" bass drum. 5 stars all the way! -"

"I never expect a factory head to sound good on a new snare. With this in mind, I put on an Aquarian coated Studio X head and tuned it to my preference and this snare kills!! I was really hesitant because of the price, but it exceeded my expectations. I have gotten quite a few compliments about the sound. . .but most importantly. . .[...]

A Good Snare Drum with a Bad Head

Comments about Groove Percussion BDSW1350MA 5x13 Maple Shell Snare Drum:
"I have a Groove Percussion Brass Piccolo that is excellent and I expected the same with this maple snare. The drum looks good but the batter head could not be tuned to eliminate severe over-ring tones. It almost made my teeth hurt. Even tape on the head didn't help. I replaced the original batter head with a dry, coated, muffle ring head and the drum sounded fine. I am very pleased with the drum and its tone now. I suggest using the original head as a large drink coaster or frisbee. I would rate the snare higher now with the new head, but this rating reflects the original. RockerCarl"
